You mean in a box under the dash like pretty much every car made in the last 30 years? :noidea:
I mean it sucks... but it's not at all uncommon? I mean there were some GMs that tried to locate them externally with the Evaporator Core, but those ended up being more of a nightmare in my opinion.

Exactly like stated. This is the same location as 90% of all cars thats been made for many many years.
The blend door broke on wifes Ford Expedition. It was quoted $1200 from dealer for a $100 part.
I had to cut a hole in the heater core plenum, replace the door and then tape it shut so entire dash and console didnt have to come out.

I'd be curious where it is on the 350z.
I'd take removing the heater core on a 3rd gen 4runner any day over trying to take one out of an Acura Vigor. 10x worse. All to reach the blower motor which is another PITA.
The easiest has to be on my Ford Bronco. But then again it is a Ford, and being on my 3rd one, it isn't fun bathing one's hands in coolant.

Grammys CJ7 is painless to get to.
I know it's in the same spot on every vehicle. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
3hrs and I got the old one out. I really hope I remember where everything goes HAHA
The core on dad's 77 bronco is simple but then again it's got maybe 10 wires in the whole dang thing and miles of room.

have you tried flushing it (if it was plugged) or just leaking?
Ive managed to back flush a couple and clean them out to working again.

The real question is why do we still have to use such an old antiquated technology when we now have cars that can drive themselves!? There's got to be a better way!
Those are pretty easy to work on and they have to be. Imagine it breaking down on you while you are taking fire.
I love engineers, I had one argue with us about how to take off a part. He said it was it impossible to do it that way and wouldnt approve it. While he stood there and watch us do it.
As an engineer that works in design applications (structural) for the DoD, I can tell you that we KNOW what the best locations are BUT due to budget, politics, etc we are sometimes forced to go against that knowledge and do things the stupid way. I wouldn't blame the engineers, but the management above them that are only concerned with $ and schedule.
At least design the dang thing so it comes out through the bottom and not through the top. I'm seriously considering replacing the rear heater core since I'm this far in to it and the previous owner neglected the cooling system so bad.
Screw it, Amazon had the rear core for $43 plus $4 for overnight shipping. I'd be a fool not to replace the factory one while I'm in here.
