Too cold! I think I may have missed my window.

So the cold has officially set in. It is -22 Celsius (-7.6 Fahrenheit) this morning and I have an uninsulated garage. I was hoping to get my Tundra brakes wrapped up this weekend and possibly get some of the suspension work done and it doesn't appear to be getting much warmer any time soon.

Anyone have suggestions for cheap ways to heat my garage up a bit? I know that without insulation, it is pretty much a lost cause, but perhaps there are some that are more clever than I.

Insulation schminsulation, get you one of these.
 
Keep it away from flammables, obviously. That and a little bit of ventilation are the only concerns, and unless your garage is huge, you're going to want to do more than crack a window. Those heaters put out heat.
 
Get some plastic sheeting and a staple gun and wrap the inside of the garage. It will help alot to keep the wind out and forma bit of an air pocket for insulation.
 
get a torpedo heater or a mr buddy heater. thats what I did, makes a huge difference and waiting months to work on a car is not an option for me as that is my therapy.
 
I have a similar situation and have been considering one of the propane heaters, but for now dress warmly and a pair of cotton gloves goes a long way when handling cold tools! I did my lower ball joints recently (granted, it was only -15) but I was pretty comfortable...
 
I have a special love for those cotton gloves. I used to do roofing all year round, sometimes in -30 Celsius or worse. I am no stranger to cold and those gloves were a life saver when hand nailing.

Still, even though I am used to the cold, it does suck quite a bit and when you are frozen, you tend to start focusing on being warm and not on what you are doing. For me, that equals brute force and no brains which is never good when working on a truck.

Definitely isn't getting any warmer here in Ottawa. I have a few friends with heated garages but in a pinch I just fire up the torpedo heater which seems to work well, you can also rent them.
 
It is suppose to warm to above freezing on Friday. Perhaps I'll get my rear brakes done then. Maybe you could be ready to do it Friday or Sat before it freezes again.
 
I attempted to buy a torpedo heater at Princess Auto on Friday night, but they were sold out of the one I wanted. In the end, I just grew some stones, bundled up, and turned getter dun into gotter did.





I still have the suspension work to do though once I get the struts back from my buddy who is swapping out the top plates for me. I guess the torpedo is back on the menu for sometime in January.
 
I have tundra struts for the front which I will run with the TRD shocks for now to see how they feel. That should get rid of my crummy shock and saggy coil issues up front. For the back, I scored some 2" spacers from Kenny-U-Pull for $5. They will be going in along with my '99 tall coils and a set of Bilstein 5100's in the rear (spacers are just going to be a place holder until I find some OME or LC coils for a good price). If I go LC coils in the rear, I will likely upgrade to 5100's at the front to bring it up a bit more.

I plan to work away at it bit by bit and see where it leads.

Nice, Kenny-U-Pull is awesome, though I don't see too many 3rd gens in there. I'm currently running the LC 9 wraps and Tokico shocks in the rear. You can get the coils for around $45 at cruiserparts.net and usually they have a pair. Let me know if you ever wanna hit a trail I think were in the same area.
 
I will look into LC coils from them then for sure. Thanks for the info. Have you found any decent places to wheel out the east end of Ottawa? You used to be able to do some wheeling in Larose, but not so much anymore. I haven't found anywhere else.

On a side note, the whole -37 Celsius with the wind chill this morning was downright mean! I am glad I got the brakes done when it was only -22 or so. Oie. It is going to be a cold one this winter! Hibernation anyone?
