too much rake after lift

So it has been a few months and probably 2500 miles since my lift, and I was looking closely from the side and it looked like there was an unusual amount of rake.

setup is:
5100's
OME 2883 front/895e rear springs

I did get an alignment after allowing it to settle for 1000mi and things looked fine at the time. Measured middle of fender to ground today and the front is 36.75, rears are 39.5

That seems like more rake than it should have, and that others are getting. Debating if maybe I should set the front 5100's to .85 to help level it out a bit? Maybe even 1.75, and eventually I plan on adding a hidden bumper winch as well.

Anyone else have this issue?

I have virtually the same setup, but OME 885/889. I measure about 37.5 front and 39.75 rear. I haven’t measured since removing my 3rd Row seats but I noticed today that my take seemed a little excessive.

Yea in my case having 3" of rake seems a bit excessive. Though I do not notice any ill effects while driving. I do drive it daily and have not had any issues. If I can use my spring compressors and do it while on the car, I will consider going up to .85 or 1.75 even.

If not, I may just wait till I feel the need to upgrade to something better like icon or king.

Moving it to the .85 setting would probably look perfect. I say try that and see how it turns out.

went back and did some bottom of fender to center of hub measurements as in other threads, so I can get a more accurate perspective. This is what I got:

F: 21.5"
R: 24"

so a total of 2.5" of rake. so raising it .85 should get me to 1.65" of rake.

I will take a look at how much work it would be to raise it up that much. I am hoping I can fit spring compressors on it while installed. It is too cold outside to work on it right now unfortunately.

Adjusting springs on the vehicle is more work and way more risk than it’s worth.

Yea just went in the garage to take a quick look and its probably better to just take them off. I bet I would need UCA's with that much more lift though.

I will probably just drive it as it is and see how I feel about upgrading everything when the time comes. At least until its warmer

You’re going to have to take it apart. Not worth the risk to cut corners. Instead of raising the perch, why don’t you add a half inch Toytec spacer for both sides? If I remember correctly it gives you about 3/4 of an inch lift.

that would also be a good option.

Also considering raising it 1.5 to make it a 3" front lift and get me to 1" rake.

You could do that as well. I have a 1.75-2 inch rake which I think looks the best, but that’s just my personal preference.

Preloading your 883’s with the 5100’s will work but your ride may suffer. 3/8” top plate spacer will give you 3/4-1” lift and you won’t have to remove the 883’s. You will need a set of flanged top hat nuts (stock nuts won’t work).....

I have this exact set up and got 2.5” lift over stock. I used wheelers t-13 coils in the rear and got 1.5” lift over stock. Your 895e’s probably gave you 2” lift.
I did get aftermarket uca’s because I wanted the added caster. You may be able to get enough caster with your stock uca’s to get in spec. I’m very happy with the 5100-883 combo! Rides very nice!

A lot of people ride the 5100s at different heights with no complaints about ride quality, myself included. So while I don’t disagree with your alternative to lifting the front more, the 5100s are made to be adjusted and you already have everything you need without having to buy another part. I wouldn’t hesitate to move the perch on the 5100, especially if you’re only going to the first notch (.85). I guarantee you won’t notice any difference in ride quality with such a minimal move.

Another thing to remember. Usually if you bump the front up it swings a little more weight onto the rear, so a .85" change in front can have a little more effect than that on the overall rake since the rear will usually come down a tiny bit in the process. This I have learned over the last 22 or so years of playing with Jeep suspension. I hate rake in general as long as it sits level when loaded. Unloaded, a little rake is functional because who hits the trail or goes on a trip with no weight in the back? The .85" is the direction I would go in too. Just watch the alignment specs, perhaps you will need arms to dial it in.

I had 5100’s on 2 Tacoma’s and utilized preloading factory coils. Worked great on my 2nd gen at 1.75” but on my 3rd gen set at .85 the ride suffered a lot. It’s all subjective when it comes to “quality of ride” for sure.

Since the OP is using 883 OME aftermarket coils, which are already “heavier/stiffer” than stock, just wanted to give a heads up concerning ride quality. It might end up riding fantastic preloaded to .85. If you go that route OP, please give us a heads up on the difference of ride.

Will post to this thread once I do it! may be a while though since its too hard to function precisely with it being cold out

Thanks for sharing. I totally understand and agree with what you’re saying. In my own experience, I just don’t think it would be enough of a change where anyone would regret the decision. As you pointed out, every rig is different though.

If it were me, given that I don’t have to spend a dime, I’d change the setting first. I’m riding my 5100s at 2.5 and I still find the ride to be great and I’ve more than put them through their paces off road without any issue.

I’ve got 1.5”-2” of rake, I’d like to level it out a bit but still keep 1” or so. Might try 0.5” spacers versus going to .85” on the 5100s.
