too stupid to figure out suspension..

ive tried researching suspensions and lifts and ive come to the conclusion that im too stupid to figure it out. im mainly a visual type of learner and its hard for me to see the final outcome of lifts without seeing it in person...

so i was hoping you kind people could help me boil all this info down..

i have a budget of about $2500 for suspension (still saving for tires)
i want 2.5-3" lift max, with as much flex and articulation i can get.
evetually will have drawers, tools, compressors, camping gear, bumpers,etc
but thst wont be until 2-3yrs from now

oh i have a 07 SE v8 4runner btw lol

its mainly a DD but im working myself into a position that i can spend a good 2 weeks out and about eveyr 6months and i want to be able to go deep into some mountains. overlanding more than rock crawlng

please help me, im so lost

I'm not sure if you stumbled across this thread but it might be a solid read for you in case you didn't. There are educational posts hidden in that thread where you just have to go through pages of posts to locate them. Not only that but said majority of posts contain personal experiences regarding xx brands and before/after pictures which might be deemed useful for visual learners such as yourself.

Honestly there's a bunch of different setups on that thread where you're most likely to find one that'll match your specs. Once you've made your decision on what brand(s) / specs you're going with, you can make another thread and ask for input from others before paying for anything if you want. It's the matter of doing the legwork in terms of research before others can help you.

Or you can swing by your local 4x4 shop and gather input from them instead. I'd do research on said shops before heading there in-person though. They're more likely to sell you whatever product(s) they have at that store and at a premium price. They should be able to install whatever parts you bring in though, they'd just charge labor. Otherwise you can expect them to sell you their products in-store.

If you have that much money just buy the Icon Stage 2 kit, it has everything you need and you don't need to rack your brain about combining parts from different companies. Otherwise, you will be browsing the forums for months trying to save $10 here or there like me. Just buy it and forget about it!
 
I was looking at the ICON 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner 0-3.5" Suspension System - Stage 2 (Tubular) UCA's, kit from metal tech...but how would this translate to off road? Do you guys know what kind of trails would be possible with this thing?

I know it's more about the driver than the rig ( I once drove a Chevy Cobalt through shasta mtns lol)
 
Get a compete kit. Like the guy above said, you'll rip your hair out trying to piece together parts to gain what you want. Also if you aren't familiar in that stuff. Know what you want out of it though. Like you mentioned, you want the most bang for your buck and to be able to conquer the trails. Icon is very reputable. It's one of the most popular quality lifts, as well as Toytec.

Half of the people just start small with shocks and springs here and there, then progress. But if you've got the funds, you're looking in the perfect place already. Go with Icons newest kit

The stage 2 kit from icon is a very nice set up on road and does very well off road. I have the same set up, but with different UCA (I pieced it together). It puts you at your budget of 2,500. Are you installing? If you aren’t, then install will put you over the budget.
 
You could also check out the SleeOffroad website. Slee - Toyota 4Runner Suspension
Slee is a well respected high-end offroad shop in Golden, CO (too far away for you), but they have some good info on their website, and sell the OME lift kit. I have a friend with an '07 T4R with this setup, and he does some pretty gnarly trails with it. As far as I know, he's very happy with it. It would certainly meet your needs as you've described them.

Anyway, check out the website and read some of the tech articles. A lot of good info there.
 
Metaltech is who you want to go through...they stand by what they sell and are awesome to deal with in all instances! I say you should consider the Icon stage 2.0+...remote reservoirs up front and back and stiffer rear springs might be needed if/when you get drawers and rear bumper stuff...otherwise, you'll not be disappointed in what you have...smooth on trails, road and very capable offroad on the boney stuff!

-toytec 112-620 (front) ( set at 0 setting but going to raise it 1 or 2 notches to remove rake )
-toytec superflexes (rear)
-SPC UCA's
-front diff drop

-I replaced CV's as well because torn boots
-Also replaced LCA's with AC Delco because bushings were old.

did this at 145k~ miles on my 03 4runner V8

I'm pretty sure this setup will put the truck at 3" and I'm planning on getting 32s or 33s, still brainstorming on that, so she'll be sitting pretty at about 4" total

Any suggested upgrades to other parts, with this setup? As I'm understanding it, a DD isn't necessarily, well necessary lol, upgrading axles and boots are more beneficial...in the long term. Also, anything that could further enhance flex/articulation/ wheel travel?

Thoughts?

Nice setup. Rear heavy springs will suck until you add a couple hundred pounds in the rear. Maybe go with the medium springs till you build the drawer system.
