Took my new Trail to Sand Dunes (pics!)

I decided to make the 2.5 hour drive today with a friend to the Little Sahara Desert in Oklahoma to try out all of the 4WD gadgets on my new Trail I picked up a few weeks ago.

I was a bit nervous using the stock tires, since I had read the sand can get very loose since it has been a pretty dry summer. Luckily, she did absolutely great! I used 4Lo most of the time, and at first couldn't make it up certain steep inclining dunes. Once I hit the rear locking diff. button I didn't have any issues at all, it could do almost anything. I'm really happy about the trip, and tried to get several good pics to share.

The only thing I didn't plan on was a little pin striping from a bush I got too close to! I guess it happens eventually.

Joneseyyy, I didn't know about it until a week ago searching online for anything near Wichita and came across it. It's in Waynoka, OK and it took quite a while on small two lane highways to get there but was worth it.

I did not actually air down. I didn't see a air station and didn't plan ahead to bring a compressor, so I left them as they were. I've went on the Medono Pass trail at the Sand Dunes in Colorado in a Silverado without airing down and didn't have trouble, so figured it should be ok, and it worked out just fine.

If you are going to be offroading, especially in the sand, then buy yourself a small compressor and air down your tires to around 18 lbs. It doesn't seem like alot but it actually does make a huge difference. Try it and you'll agree!

1254 miles and took it off road....that is awesome! Enjoy the rig. It looks bada$$!

PS...my wife's family is from Colby, KS. We visited the Monument Rocks .. Have you ever been there? Great place to check out and get some photos. We had our 2010 sequoia...when I get back to my computer, I will post a pic. Not a 4runner, but gives you an idea of what you would see. Pretty amazing area....

Going to the dunes in my 4r was the most fun thing i've done in a vehicle.

I've spent a ton of time out there, on a 4wheeler. Bad thing is if you get stuck...good luck...cause a 450cc 4wheeler with paddles isn't much help. Better get a winch and shovel so you can bury that spare and winch off of it.

You rarely see trucks or SUV's up there - big weekends have buggies and UTV's, but those aren't much help either.
