Torque Converter gone Sour?

So I went to Uwharrie on Sunday for a day trip and did some big hill climbs in my 4 cyl. The engine really had to work hard for some of the climbs. Anyway, as I was returning to Raleigh I noticed that my transmission was whining, most noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear, after that it becomes less pronounced. It does not whine in park or neutral. I have been researching the noise and it sounds like it could be the torque converter. Does anyone have any insight into this matter?

I have been driving around and notices that it shifts just fine, and the engine dosent want to stall which might point me away from the torque converter. It almost sounds like the whine a manual makes in reverse just quieter.

I have not had the diff serviced ever that I know of, I have kinda just been putting it off. I will look at getting the drive shaft lubricated
