Tough steering on my 4WD V8..

Well the 4Runner is in the shop getting the lift installed and my friend that works there pointed out that my power steering fluid is brown. I have noticed that my steering is a lot tighter than it used to be. Is this the issue? He would only charge me $40 to flush it out. Think it's worth it?

I had the same issue on my 03 v6 limited. Steering got tight after a 3000 mile road trip.

Fluid was brown.

I swapped it out, and it had no immediate effect, however I have noticed that since the change that the steering has slowly gotten lighter.

Its an easy DIY, but for $40 Id just get your friend to do it

I'm interested in the outcome - I just picked up my '03 V8 Limited with 88k miles, and the steering is a b!tch. I didn't notice the fluid color, but the fluid level is good. I was going to have them check it out when I bring it in for the 90k service, but if a "flush" would fix it, I'll try it now.

Anyone have a link showing how to do that? (the flush)

P/S Fluid flush doesn't hurt the vehicle, particularly is the fluid is brownish. Some people would say that its all a scam and you never have to change p/s fluid, I respectfully disagree, especially if the system is leaking or failing.

I would have your friend check your tie rod end boots while he does the lift. For some reason the powersteering racks on some of the 4Runners and other Toyota trucks leak near the seals on the inner tierods. Look for soaked boots or drips.

Did u get the flush done yet? Notice any difference? This tough steering is not helping winter driving here in Michigan :ybrick:
