towing wire harness

I am towing my buddy's boat for the first time this weekend and need to pickup a wiring harness. Is there anything special that i need to know?

I have an 03 limited v8.

Also, where would be a good place to pick one up? i looked at walmart without success...

You should have a 7 blade RV connector under the bumper on the left side (not a great spot btw). Your buddies boat most likely has a 4 wire flat connector. You can get adaptors that plug into the 7 wire and convert it to 4. Camping World, Cabella's , or any RV or boat dealer should have these.

If you don't have the 7 pin connector, then it is involved to wire it up. There will be two plugs underneath the bumper that are Toyota specific so you can get a harness from the dealer or on line. Camping World may have some kits, but I'm pretty sure you should have the 7 blade on your V8.

Your next problem will be ensuring your buddies harness will reach the connector (my trailer did not). I had to get a 7 blade to 6 pin harness (Camping World), rewire the 7 blade, then rewire the trailer.

I got an extension, much easier than re-wiring
