Towing with 4Runner.

Just want to share my experience towing with 4Runner.
I went boating this weekend with my family and friends. It was the hottest day so far this summer in DFW, Texas area, by the time we were going back it was 103 F…. I normally do not go to the lake when it is that hot but because of prior commitment I had to… now quickly to the point:
I was not concern about the engine, but I was wondering about temperature of the trany considering that I was puling 3200 LBS boat with truck loaded and 6 people in it (two adults and 4 kids), AC is running on “Hi” and the hilly terrain where hills are big enough that any unloaded car or truck would switch to 3-rd (or 4-th) gear to maintain 65 MPH.
Right after I got home and pull my boat into garage and opened the hood of the truck… obviously that thing was hot, but to my big surprise I can put my hand on trany radiator and trany radiator hoses! I was impressed that trany can stay that “cool” when everything else is scorching hot! Just want to share this with you all.

Yep, I am amazed at how well the coolers work. On my aftermarket one (when towing) I can barely touch the inlet hose but I can hold the outlet easily.

Very good to know. I can't wait till I get a boat to tow around... looks like its going to be winter before that happens though... lol.

I've been doing a bathroom renovation and I'm using my girlfriends 16' stock trailer for trips to Home Depot. I can't believe how well this thing tows a heavy stock trailer, loaded with tools and equipment. I'm not hitting the highway or anything, but its just a nice comfy tow.

Good to know. Since I have a filly in Colorado that I will need to get to CA at some point soon. 950+ mile trip one way. Was thinking of paying a professional hauler, but now will have to look into the cost of me doing it, or paying them. Will have to find a horse trailer to borrow though. I saw a 4th Gen 4Runner tonight out at the local state park lake towing a boat that was taller than the 4Runner. I know the true test is the stopping ability over the towing ability, especially over something live that moves around.
