Towing with your 5th gens?

Hey guys, i currently own a 2006 Sequoia and an 03 4Runner, we are looking at combining those two into a new vehicle, I want a new Sequoia, but we drive so much the gas milage is not what were looking for, so my question is how well do the 5th gens tow? i have a 26 foot camper that weighs #4200 unloaded, i know thats pretty close to the max for these. What is the most weight you guys have towed and how well does it do?

I think you are better off with a v8 bud. 4 runners are great vehicles but are not meant for heavy towing. Short distances may be ok but air bags are a must for load control. I have firestone ride rite air bags and I am very pleased.
 
The 4runner would not be a good TV in TN. I tow 5,000 lbs around the flat Midwest with a 2012 4runner. The 4runner works hard to tow over 4,000 lbs. (we had a smaller camper first). However, it makes a great daily driver for my wife in the winter and performs double duty as our towing/touring car in the summer.

Thank you guys i think ive got my answer already looking through these threads, I think we may go with a used 4Runner or even Highlander and have enough left to get an older model tundra to pull the camper and to play around in, i think that makes the most sense at this point. I know my 4runner has the same rating as the new ones and theres no way i would hook my camper up to it unless i was moving around the house. I just love the new 4Runners and have been trying to justify it, but in the end i think i'll be better off having a v8 around like some of you have mentioned..........Thanks for the fast replies and help!

While I miss my V8 4runner dearly, I've been pleased with my towing capability in the Trail Edition. I've towed a number of vehicles all over this great nation on my double axle open trailer. I do recommend following the advice to do it as safely as possible (ie airbags and brake controllers are a must).

wow you blew me away, i had to check that out for myself it shows tow up to 4700 on toyotas website which is probably with loaded up tow package, but wow thats still too low for me, its crazy that the Highlander is rated at 5000...thanks for crushing my dreams lol, i know thats definately not goign to work for us now.

Do you have data to back up the #3700 claim?

It is officially 4,700lbs. 2013 was listed at 5,000. I know I've personnally exceeded that number more times than I can count. I used to have a Corvette that I moved around the country with no issues.
 
Just bought a 22' CC boat that I'm picking up tomorrow for a short trip home. I'm thinking it may put my LE close to the bump stops?

Tows my 19' fine, but I'm going to be pushing 5K++ with the 22.

I am not so sure. I think Toyota is officially confused about the issue.

If you look into the physical manual of a '14 4Runner, it says 5,000 lbs.

That's a discussion that was hashed out in a number of other threads that I'm not qualified to weigh in on.
 
on campers i have been looking at (ultra lites) i look for the yellow sticker on them.

it gives overall weight and water tank full weight. add in extra's (food, drink, gear, etc) and you then get a pretty close final ballpark total weight.

even these ultra lites are pushing 3.2k empty (200lbs for water) and then another 500lbs for extra's and im pushing 4k fully loaded.
