Toyo Open Country ATII EXTREME

I have read mixed reviews about this tire and I wanted to see what others have to say about the ATII Extreme.

The biggest complaint is wet conditions performance after some wear. Which is a major concern.

If this has been discussed before, i apologize. I did attempt to search and did not find much.

I have some on my full size Dodge and they've been great. Not much rain to test their wet performance so I can't comment on that. I'd buy them again.

I've got a set of 285/70/17 ATII E on my 3500 dodge. I've got 40,000km on them and they seem to be wearing pretty good. I haven't noticed any traction issues in rain or wet roads. They might be a touch heavy for the 4Runner?

I went with the BFG AT KO2 to try something a bit different on my runner. They are a bit more aggressive looking and a few pounds lighter then the Toyos. Cheaper by a couple hundred bucks as well. Time will tell how they wear compared to the Toyos.

I have new AT2 on my T4R and seem fine, haven't been in much rain with them - I have old AT on other vehicle with about 27k on them and they are great.

They are heavier than other ATs. Though the 285 size only comes in the XTREME.

The 285 come in regular and xtreme. The Dodge diesel is my tow rig so nothing too crazy off road except running down Forest Service Roads. I run a winter tire, but they seem fine in the shoulder season. I pull a 5th wheel and they have performed well with a heavy load on.

I have 285s in a P-metric version. I'm mixed. I wouldn't buy them again, but don't hate them. I put a rock through the center of the tread my first day on the dirt. Since then I haven't had much issue. And they hooked up reasonably well in on the rocks in Moab. Balance has been bad the entire life. Not sure whether they just aren't round or what, but I've had them balanced 4 times now including on a road force machine. They always vibrate at 75mph. I would be more inclined to go with something like a KM2 when they're on a good sale or most likely I'm planning to replace with a Cooper XT4 ( new name for the ATW).

I have the ATII P275/65/18 for almost 70,000kms (4 years) with no problem whatsoever. Had them balanced once and rotated every 10,000kms with nice even wear. They are currently at 50% tread remaining but I don't think I'll run them to their bald cause I want to upsize to LT275/70/18.

They have a little hum to them but I can live with it. I've been debating on sticking with them or move on to either the Toyo M/T or NITTO Trail Grapplers. Grrrr

It's been kinda frustrating. Now I just live with it. Since I bought them online I get no warranty or free balance. So I've spent about $200 in balancing. After that the low online price isn't such a good deal anymore.

Other than that - I think the puncture may just be a fluke. Sometimes low probability events just happen.

They're reasonably quiet. The only place I find them noisy is on the concrete highway sections. Those are loud anyway, but with these tires you cannot talk on the blue tooth because the other person can't hear you over the highway noise. On asphalt highway they're not bad at all. Ride quality is good. And MPG has been mixed. But good if I don't go crazy. Our highways tend to be 80-90mph speeds and the change in gearing isn't great at that speed. Kind always wants to live in 4th gear, so my mpg has dropped a good amount. But at 75 I still get 19-20mpg calculated, so that's probably almost exactly what I was getting with stock tires.
