Yeah, I got it all apart and back together but I must not of seated an injector correctly because now there's a hissing sound and the smell of gas...damn 420 holiday

Mine did that too. I bet 99% that it's one of your o-rings. I had to replace mine after my knock sensor build because my passenger rear injector was leaking. Those seals are old and tend to rip when you pull them apart. Look at the link I sent before and it's got the part number for the o-rings.

Looks like I might be doing a sensor soon enough. Had bank1 p0325 come up and assuming its the harness especially with the killer hot weather we have been having lately.

Anyway, any pointers from those that finished?
Good time to do timing belt and water pump as well?

Anyone have part numbers for both knock sensors and harness? Seems to be the best thing is when you have it apart to do it all at once?

It's not that difficult just time consuming. This fix deals with the top of the engine and the tb/wp is on the front so I can't really say it's a fix this while you're in there type of thing. I got my sensors from rock auto and my harness from Toyota of Dallas. I'll look up part numbers in a little bit, but if you look through my posts, I think I posted them somewhere already...

Are both sensors the same part number?

I also read somewhere I'll need to order 2 new intake gaskets and another gasket I forgot what it was haha.

Yeah, only one harness and two sensors of the same part number. I didn't replace any gaskets and have had no problems.

Oh where the head meets the block? Idk I have to look it up.

just got down with the install today..

I will say, damn that was a long day..
but in the end im glad its over with. Now I can only hope for the moment of truth, got it all buttoned up and started it for a few minutes and runs fine but wont know if I cured the issue till I drive it around.

So I got the same knock sensor issue, 1997 4runner 3.4L. I'm confused here folks, I tore off upper and lower intake, and still not seeing the knock sensor like the 1st pics of that beautiful engine in begining of thread. Do I really need to take even more off. Do I have to take off fuel rails and injectors? If so I'm not sure I want to do this, not to mention the wire harness looks like a complete headache to get thru. Dealership quoted me 2.9 hrs of work to do it, which seems way to little, if it is only that much I might just take it in the pants. Please help!

Your about half way there! After the upper and lower intake plenums come off the intake manifold needs to come off.
You can leave the fuel rails and injectors mounted to the manifold.
Just need to undo the fuel line on the driver side. Follow it out from the fuel rail.
Try not to disturb the injectors as the o rings get brittle.
Next is, if I remember correctly, is 14 bolts holding the intake manifold down.
12mm's.

Once those are off and all the hoses come off you should be able to slide it up.
You will need to take off the timing cover first as the upper coolant inlet is blocked by the timing cover.
Don't forget to take off all the injector clips and the coil pack clips so the harness is more maneuverable.

I just finished this job a few days back so it's fresh in my mind.

It's a good all day project. Not difficult. Just time consuming and need to be cautious about dropping anything down the intake holes

I ran these parts at rock auto, wow $80 for a sensor, anyone willing to swear by these parts, I just spent $196 just for 1 sensor at toyota dealership, glad I still got that receipt, the wire harness was only $31 dollars though, that was fair.

I've heard that the harness in this engine can become defective without triggering any knock sensor code. My T100 knocks under load when engine is warm, esp on a warm summer day. Local Toyota specialist basically refused to change the harness. All the usual solutions (spark plugs and wires, gas treatment combined with high revs to burn off carbon, intake manifold cleaning,...) have no effect.

If I were to do it again, I'd just change the harness to save some money. It's not a bad job if you were to do it yourself. It's just takes awhile. If you're paying a mech then I'd just replace everything while he's in there.

I'm sure it's possible to have knock sensor issues without a code. If you'd tried everything else, I guess that's the next step.

Could it be a timing issue or something else? Is you TB and WP up to date?

If you run it right, not hard at all. Mine was run wrong by a previous mech so I had to cut mine. The replacement was run correctly. There's a little cutout at the front of engine. East to figure about.

All the research I did said that the Artek and denso were former/current toyota suppliers. Not sur about the beck

I removed the fuel rail to give my injectors a good cleaning, ended up with a few broken/brittle O-rings. I had a few generic washers laying around so I used them and they were hit n miss. I ordered some from the stealership and they quoted me like $5 for a pack of ten. They ordered the parts and then informed me the new little girl I talked to was mistaken. They were $5 each! So, my $5 project turned into $20. They originally said I'd have to pay for 10@5 but I convinced them to let me but 6@ $3 each.

Don't go the autozone O-rings. They didn't work at all, that's why I tried the generic ones...shoulda went OEM ftom the beginning.

timing belt was replaced at 110k. Didn't fix this mild knocking issue, which started around 85k. Not sure what WP is but I've had a beer already. This truck has had a lot of TLC, more than just scheduled maintenance.

So I'm trying to find an alternate method of getting this done.

I'll probably have my sisters mechanic do it since I don't want to.

Dang man, ridiculous price. Is there anyone in ID that can help you? Sensors run about 135 (do both while you're in there) and 25 for the sub harness, 100 for the gasket set. Just keep resetting the codes. The ECM will use the other one to adjust your timing. Dang knock sensors kick these runners into "limp mode."
