Has anyone had any experience with toyota replacement brake rotors/pads?

I need to do a brake job and I am thinking of just buying OEM parts from the dealership.

I tend to have horrible luck with AZ and AAP parts (they only last a year or two). I put EBC slotted rotors on my Maxima, they were ok but I am looking for something quiet and that will last for a while.

Any comments would be awesome!

oem rotors and pads routinely last over 80K miles, sometimes over 100K miles (assuming no frozen caliper issues that lead to premature wear)... nothing wrong with those numbers so hard to argue against oem.
 
i did use oem pads recently but opted for centric rotors from tire rack. They often have free shipping on brake parts over $50 and their centers are painted black to avoid unsighly rust issues.

also, if you ever have to replace the calipers, NAPA also has painted black calipers to avoid rust and they have a lifetime warranty.
 
OEM prices are ridiculous.

I upgraded to some slotted and drilled rotors with upgraded pads for half the price of OEM. They stop better and are super smooth.

I also replaced a frozen caliper for much more than half the price of OEM.

If you really want OEM, you'll pay for it, but in my honest opinion, its not worth it.
 
prices weren't that bad in my opinion. $70/rotor for the larger ones and $40 for the pads, from the Dealership. I paid more for the EBC ultimax rotors I put on my maxima. They were good rotors for they first year, ok rotors for the second year and pretty much shot by the 3rd year. I estimate I put 45k miles on over those 3 years.

If those are indeed OEM part and not off-brand ones being resold thorugh the dealership, then those are very good prices. I paid about that much for Autozone parts when I redid the front brakes on our V6.

I've always wondered how these drilled rotors hold up with offroad conditions like mud. any feedback on this? It seems like all those holes would be good home to muds and small rocks or clay and that would be a disaster for braking performance and longevity but I have no first hand experience ...
 
Rock Auto is running one of their wholesaler closeout sales right now on 4Runner parts.

I picked up the Ultra Rotors last time and just installed them. They seem pretty good. It took me a long time to figure it out but they are the same ultra rotor that Napa sells (or used to sell - I don't know if theirs still have the slots).

Lots of other brake components in the sale as well.

I used OE pads because I hate dust and squealing. Aftermarket rotors from AZ or ADV. Steel is steel. No need to pay dealer mark up for those.

I have never had any issues with that. I used to check them after every trip I went on but it's never happened in the time I have had them.

The only issue I have had was a small rock got stick between the rotor and heat shield and I cleared that in 20 seconds by climbing under and pulling the shield back a bit then continued on the trail.
 
No issues here either. I have Powerstop on mine and the difference between them and OEM is night and day. Zero mush. I thought I needed to check my brake lines when I got my Shrockworks on because I was seriously standing on the brakes. Once I switched to Powerstop which has the vented disks I was pressing about half as hard and the truck would stop easily. I always wondered about that problem with stick and rocks when people had rims like the FN's or Level 8's with 5 spoke and such large amounts of space between each spoke.
 
So the powerstop rotors are good? They seem fairly inexpensive on RockAuto. I need new rotors/pads for my 4runner. Which pads would you guys recommend to go with the powerstop rotors?
 
Hmm, Im at 90k on OEM rotors/pads and they still have at least 10k left in them. I was going to swap for OEM pads/rotors but may go with OEM pads and Powerstop rotors after checking them out.

I have been preparing to do this job myself and have done much research. After doing such, I have come to the conclusion of probably using Napa pads and rotors. Many claim that while they are not the cheapest, they are by no means the most expensive and they are quality. Essentially good in between road for cost and quality.
 
I just hit 155k miles on my original pads and rotors. Everything still seems to be working fine. I transferred to another province about 6 months ago and had to get my vehicle safetied - my pads were measured and the whole braking system passed without any issues.
 
I replaced my brakes with Brembo rotors, Green Stuff Pads and Napa calipers (pistons often freeze so will be free to replace if they do). No complaints so far except honestly I think the Green Stuff pads are overpriced for what they are.

Also be aware, slotted and drilled rotors look cool and are great for towing, but will chew through pads quicker.

They're also worthless for every day use vehicles. Great for race cars though.
