Toyota E-locker issues

Have a 99 sr5 runner with a 3.4 with a stock locker. Went to use the locker the other day and the light just blinks when I hit the button and the locker won't engage. Where should I start looking to fix this issue?

Trying snaking around slowly in a figure 8 pattern while the light is blinking.

If that doesn't work the motor probably has some corrosion inside, which is common

yup a lot of times the e locker wont engage as soon as the button is pressed, its needs some motion to align the pins.
Drive with a few small turns very slowly and if it still doesnt engage then check the motor for corrosion and clean it.

report back if it still doesnt work as it might be something more than that.

Might be obvious, but make sure your in 4low when trying to engage the rear diff (unless you have done the blue/grey wire mod).

Messed around tonight and sure enough it only comes on in low range, thank you for the help on that. What is the blue/grey wire mod?

This might be obvious but it wasn't to me ....

Are you 100% sure it isn't actually engaging?

I thought mine was broken and turns out only the part which sends a signal back to the dash to make the light go solid is malfunctioning, causing it to blink but never go solid.

The locker works 100% and engages.

You can check this by having a buddy stick his head down there and listen by the wheel well when you engage it.

I didn't realize that you could only be in 4lo for it to work figured could be anytime but now time to fix that. Thank you for the help.
