Toyota Factory alarm sensitivity Adjustment

is there a way for us, 4R owners to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm, my alarm's sensitivity used to be so high, i made them ( dealership) adjust it, and they did, but this time they set it at the minimum.

Now i would like to set to Medium sensitivity, but the dealer is too far from where i live.

How to adjust the sensitivity settings?

Do you have the factory alarm? My facotry alarm won't go off unless a door is opened. I asked the dealer if the sensitivity can be changed and they told me that it cannot.

That's right! If you have the Toyota factory alarm then the only sensitivity setting for this alarm is the glass breakage sensor. The factory alarm only sounds off (suppose to) if someone breaks your window or if you leave a window rolled partially down and a bandit reaches in to open the door from the inside.

You can test your glass breakage sensitivity by removing the key from your ignition, locking yourself inside of the truck using the key fob and then tap on a champagne glass using a metal spoon. Just for info........you have to tap HARD to set off the sensor. So hard that I don't believe it will work unless a sloppy bandit breaks your truck's window.

it used to be so sensitive that a passerby with those fat mufflers and it doesn't have to be very loud, triggers my alarm (back then i don't know how to use the valet feature).

so i asked them to decrease a little bit, but the guy from the service told me that they set it to minimum. and now it rarely goes off, unless a very loud muffler parked next to me, then my alarm goes panic.

and my factory alarm, once turned ON and left an interior light on, it starts to panic. so i have to go back to turn off the interior light. Does this happens to you, owners with factory alarm? it not a bad idea at least it tells you you left something ON inside your trick.

so ill just have to leave it as it is right now but would be nice if we could set the sensitivity to our liings.

Just for info........you have to tap HARD to set off the sensor. So hard that I don't believe it will work unless a sloppy bandit breaks your truck's window.

I haven't tried it yet on my 06 T4R limited since I didn't realize it had a GBS. On my 01 Tundra and my ladies old 01 Rav4 and current 07 Rav4 you can just tap the glass with the end of your ignition key to set it off. It has to be a hard tap, but not near hard enough to break the glass (obviously).

I added my RS3200+ factory style security alarm after I bought my truck. My sensor is located beneath the passenger foot department and the alarm's ECM is mounted up against the passenger side interior firewall. I can adjust my sensitivity by dropping the glove box and using a medium size flat screwdriver head to rotate a screw. If I remember correctly, I believe there were 5 or 6 sensitivity settings. I set mine on the middle setting to prevent accidental alarm activation since I travel away from home often.

I believe the factory installed alarms comes with the additional (extra) security horn. My after market RS3200+ VIP security alarm utilizes the original Runner's horns.

Hope this helps you find your alarm ECM to save yourself a trip to the dealer.
