Toyota Has One-Truck Mind Regarding Diesels

Looks like only one Toyota vehicle is getting a diesel engine and it is not the 4Runner.

That's too bad, sad news. I use my 4Runner for towing, in addition to my off-road and other uses. I would have really been interested in a diesel version of the 4runner.

is this really a surprise? Toyota wants to really take over the american full size truck market and to do so they are going to need a diesel in the tundra. I dont see the taco's competitition getting one or the 4runners...as such, it would be silly to engineer the frame to accept a diesel.

The 4Runner already comes in a diesel version just not for the north american market.

With all due respect, some vehicles that the 4Runner competes with DO have Diesel engines right now or in the very near future.

- Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 3.0L, V6 common rail turbo diesel engine.

- VW Touareg V10 TDI engine. VW also plans to introduce a V6 TDI engine in the Touareg in the near future.

There may be other SUVs with diesel engines these two popped into my mind first.

I agree that it would be silly to retrofit a diesel engine into the current model 4Runner but there is no reason why the next generation 4Runner could not be engineered to do so.
