Toyota R12 adapters?

Does anyone know where to obtain R12 adapters for Toyota A/C systems? I've got a 1990 4Runner and a 1987 Camry (2.0L 4 cyl) that both need the R12 recharged and the standard R12 gauges and fill hose don't fit.

No Comment. Let's just say that if one looks at a rather generic-looking, city and regionally-based (but nationally known) want-ad and for-sale site, one can find it pretty easily.

are you sure your truck doesn't have 134 adapters screwed onto your r12 fittings? all R12 gages and hoses should work. if your truck has the big clip on fittings then someone has screwed on 134 adapters at which time you need to evacuate and flush the system before putting 12 back in. Better yet show us some pics:cowboy:

They're definitely not R-134A quick-disconnects. The R-12 gauges we have don't seem to fit correctly - like the AC valves are too small. I can't see Toyota doing something like this, but there it is. I'll get some pictures.

There was a short time when auto R12 service fittings where 5/16 instead of the more common 1/4" fitting. There is an adapter from standard 1/4" hose to 5/16" that is now commonly used in residential R410A systems.

Near as I can figure it, there are 5/16" schraders on the 4Runner, but the gauge set appears to be 7/16" Is there a chance that this is a set of gauges for a truck? Or did they come like this and then a set of adapters was needed for different vehicles? Seems a little ridiculous to me - make the damn things standardized already.

I guess they did that with the 134A fittings.

R134 auto are all quick disconnect fittings. All manifold sets that I'm aware of use 1/4" fitting hoses, some have 3/8 for faster vacuum on that port. If your referring to the little charging bottles from the auto store, I have no idea what fitting they are? Any size service port other than 1/4" would require an adapter to a standard 1/4" hose I am guessing. I'll check on my 4runner's service port tonight and see what is required to gauge up to the system. I think they manufactured these with different sizes to make the user aware of different refrigrations and the non licensed guy use to not be able to purchase the gas, untill these little bottles became avalible years ago.
