TOYOTA TIS Techstream

What version windows do you have? xp, 7 or 10? What version 32 or 64 bit?

I'm looking to give this one more try, but I want to buy the right one.

I am running windows 10 64 bit. I followed the instructions on installing the drivers on 64 bit and it worked the first time.

Is there any way to turn off the ignition key alarm when the drivers door is open. Say you are camping and want the radio on and front door open. I didn't see any option in Techstream for this.

1. I ordered this one. Received it quickly (few days) and it has worked flawlessly. Mini VCI Diagnostic Tool Cable Scanner for Toyota Lexus TIS Techstream V10.30.29 | eBay

2. The CD has a link to a YouTube video on the install. It's pretty straightforward though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5naojn2BXhs

3. I installed it on Win7 32 bit. 32 bit definitely makes the install much simpler. My brother got it working on his Lexus on a Win10 64 bit laptop but it took a lot more messing around with files/drivers (we both work in IT) if you want to save yourself time/headaches just use XP or Win7 32 bit. I also recommend you do it on a machine that you don't use regularly.

I just bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3MC9SX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seems to be the same as the one above on ebay. I'm running win7 32 bit. It's amazon prime, so I can return it again if it doesn't work. Third time buying this thing, hopefully third one is the charm!:banplease:

Anyone in the NY area that wants to program my 4r for some beer?

I'm in NJ. If I can get mine to work, i'll let you know. The amazon one I bought arrived yesterday, but the CD was blank. No software. The seller sent me a link to download the software, and I left the download running when I left home this morning. If I have time tonight, I'll try again.

I could not get this to work with my windows 7 32 bit laptop. However.... a friend gave me an old laptop with Windows XP Pro, and it works. Anyone know what I select for my car? I drive a 2014 5th gen.

In the vehicle setup screen, after I choose 4 runner i have the following options
-0908
0908-1008
1008-1208
1208-1308
1308-

i think the ignition needs to be in the on position or maybe even the car needs to be on - and it should be automatic.

OK, will try with the car running. I had the key in the on position.

Reading thru this thread someone thought that this related to the gens. given he drives a 5th gen like me, he chose the last one on the list and was able to make changes.

I'm hoping someone can confirm, as I'm afraid of screwing something up.

What I'm looking to do is:
  • change the TPMS sensor setting. I'm running KO2s at 40 psi. Stock TPMS setting is 32 psi
  • turn off the beeps when you lock/unlock doors
  • roll down all windows, including rear lift gate, with the key fob. Hopefully sunroof open too
  • turn off seat belt chimes

Not running, just on.

Ok, so I chose the last one on the dropdown.

What was tryin to do was:
  • change the TPMS sensor setting. I'm running KO2s at 40 psi. Stock TPMS setting is 32 psi - i can see the TPMS in the scan area, but not in the Customize area.
  • turn off the beeps when you lock/unlock doors - could not find this
  • roll down all windows, including rear lift gate, with the key fob. Hopefully sunroof open too - changed a setting in the power windows. The key now rolls down the 4 windows (don't know if this was possible before, can anyone try to rolldown your windows by holding hte unlock button on the key fob?), but could not find where to also roll down the lift gate or open sunroof
  • turn off seat belt chimes - you can choose to turn off the passenger or driver separately. I turned off the driver.

Anyone been able to do the ones I can't figure out above? A little help please??

Ok Watched some YouTube videos. Got the sunroof done and the annoying beeps when you lock and unlock the doors. Still no luck with the tailgate window. I also tried to make it so all the doors unlock with one click, but no luck there either.

  • If you can figure that out I would like to know how.

I am now thinking that you need to program the TPMS valve directly at it's radio frequency. Then the 4R tis will simply read that data. I don't think it can program that data.

I could be wrong... you can type in tire sensor IDs so the computer knows what to read but it will then only read what is already programed into that sensor... it's can't write to it. Again.. .maybe I'm wrong, but that's where I am at so far. The only flaw in my theory is that on my truck there is an overall threshold at 25psi... each sensor has N/A for threshold... but just above them is a single line 25psi threshold. I'm yet to see anyone change those settings... or even speak of them.

Why are you guys trying to change the settings on the TPMS sensors? What problems are ya'll having? It's very important to make sure they are all registered properly to the body ECU.

When the TPMS system is fitted at the factory the unique ID numbers of the TPM sensors have to be registered along with their position on the car with the tire pressure monitor ECU. This is also the case if any of the system components are subsequently changed e.g. in the event of rotating the tires, changing sensors, replacing the ECU etc. This process requires the activation of the TPMS sensor using low frequency radio and the capture of the UHF data transmitted. This data includes the TPMS ID, the pressure and temperature. In the plants the activation is carried out using large antenna systems on the production line but in the dealerships and tire shops hand tools are used. These tools can also be used to check the TPMS for faults prior to disassembly. If a TPM sensor or its position on the car is changed without re-registering the IDs then the TPMS warning light will turn on and stay on until the ID's are reregistered.

More explanation.

Toyota has installed direct TPMS united in the following Toyota and Scion models:

4 Runner 2004-12
Avalon 2007-13
Camry 2007-15
Corolla 2007-09
FJ Cruiser 2008-15
Highlander 2007-15
Land Cruiser 2005-15
Matrix 2007-13
Prius 2006-15
Rav4 2006-15
Scion tC 2007-15
Sequoia 2004-15
Sienna 2006-15
Solara 2007-09
Tacoma 2005-15
Tundra 2005-15
Venza 2009-15
Yaris 2008-15

The direct TPMS system for the Toyota vehicles listed here uses a button labeled “SET” located below the steering column or in the glove box to reset the system. When you press the button, the system looks for the sensor IDs that are already stored in the memory.

SET button procedure should be used when rotating tires that have different inflation pressures on front and rear.
SET button procedure should be used when rotating tires that have different inflation pressures on front and rear.
This button is not a magic button that saves you from purchasing TPMS tools and investing in training. In fact, this button can get you into even more trouble if you are unfamiliar with TPMS sensors and reset/relearn procedures.

Reset Procedure

1. Park the vehicle in a safe place and turn the ignition switch to the “Lock” position.
2. Adjust the pressure of all installed tires to the specified cold tire inflation pressure level. Consult the vehicle placard, either on the driver’s door jamb or in the owner’s manual.
3. Turn the ignition key to the “On” position.
4. Push and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly three times.
5. Leave the key in the “On” position for a few minutes, and then turn the ignition key to the “Lock” position.

Typically, systems use a light on the dashboard and do not display individual pressures (some 2010 models display pressures in the driver information area on the dashboard). When the vehicle is started, the light should illuminate for three seconds and go out, signifying that the system is functioning normally. If the light stays on, it means that the system has detected low inflation pressure in one or more tires. The inflation of all the tires (sometimes including the spare) should be re-checked.

If the light flashes for one minute after the ignition is turned on, or it continues to flash, it
is a sign the system has a malfunction that needs to be diagnosed and corrected. On some models, the frequency and length of the flashes can be used to diagnose a problem.

The SET button procedure should be used when rotating tires that have different inflation pressures on the front and rear tires, when changing or adjusting the tire inflation pressure, when changing tire size, or when tires are replaced.

If you push the button while the vehicle is moving, initialization is not performed.

If you push the tire pressure reset switch accidentally and initialization is performed, adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level and initialize the system again.

If the tire pressure warning light does not blink slowly three times when you push and hold the reset switch, initialization has failed and the TPMS may not work properly. In this case, initialize the system again.

Land Cruisers have a “MAIN/2nd” switch. This allows the owner to have two different sets of tires and wheels with two different sets of TPMS valve/sensor ID numbers. For example, the second set could be used for winter tires.

If there is a problem with one or more of the sensors communicating with the TPMS module during the reset procedure, it could go into a “looping” mode where it locks out the use of the SET button, and the TPMS light will flash. The system is now stuck in this looping mode, and no matter how many times you press the SET button or cycle the ignition, the light will continue to flash.

The only way to stop the looping – the system looking for sensor IDs that may not be in the memory – is to perform a procedure that puts the system into a learn mode (see sidebar).

Indirect TPMS

Certain Toyota and Scion models have indirect TPMS systems. These include:
Scion tC 2005-06
Corolla 2005-06
Matrix 2005-06
Solara 2004-06
Highlander 2004-06
Rav4 2004-05

The rest procedure starts with turning the ignition key to the ON position (but don’t start the engine), then press and hold the RESET button until the flashing TPMS warning light goes off. Or, if it is not flashing, hold the RESET button until the light flashes three times. Once that happens, turn the key off.

The relearn procedure is not complete until the vehicle is driven at 19 mph or faster for at least one continuous hour.

Sensor Replacement

Toyota uses either Pacific or TRW sensors and modules as OE. The system monitors more than pressure and temperature, it also looks at the wheel speed sensor, engine RPM and other inputs to make sure the system is operating within set parameters. If the vehicle has problems with any of this information that is shared along the CAN-BUS, it will not function properly.

Whenever you replace a sensor, module or install a second set of wheels, the new IDs for the sensors must be programmed into the system through the OBD-II connection. The ID numbers can be found on the sensors.

Sometimes it is not until the tire is installed on the wheel that techs realize they now need the ID numbers. Some dedicated TPMS tools can collect the ID number by either capturing the periodic transmissions from a sensor or by activating the sensor by letting pressure out of the tire so that the pressure drops 6 psi within 30 seconds.

After you have the sensor ID numbers, it is just a matter of following the directions on whatever tool you are using and inputting the ID numbers. Some tools make it easier than others, and some will even tell you if you have to collect an ID number from the spare.

This process requires the activation of the TPMS sensor using low frequency radio and the capture of the UHF data transmitted. This data includes the TPMS ID, the pressure and temperature.

I believe that should read "low power" as UHF = Ultra High Fequency.

As to your following reply the 4Runner does not offer the reset switch.

As to problems... none actually. What we were trying to figure out is how to alter the factory setting of the "low pressure threshold".

For instance if you go off road down to 18psi your light is going to come on. However if you were able to set it to say 10psi before your trip everything would be fine. Then when you get back you bump it back up to 25 or 27 or whatever pressure suited you.

As far as I can tell that can not be done. So it's not a problem. I suppose you could say it's an inability to over ride the factory firmware regarding the TPMS. When I made the post above I had been thinking maybe it could be programmed into each valve... but after reading a lot more last night, I no longer think this is the case. I believe this is all in the hands of Toyota.

But as far as registering the valve IDs... that is very easy with the Techstream. Type the ID, press go, everything is hunky dorey. You get your PSI, Temp, ID and a universal threshold of 25 or 27psi I forget which.

So the only problem is inability to tweak the system.

ETA: @ Marlinsfan ... I thought for sure I saw a guy on YT do the windows+sunroof.. not sure if lift gate window was involved or not. I'll see if I can find it again.

------ here ya go... go to 2:03 --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDpldAv0uQE

No sure how you will add the rear window. Also go to 1:10 and he goes through some all unlock settings. Not sure if that's what you want or not.

@toyo... go to this video at 5:57 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MECPSmg5JfI He has just finished entering new valves and registering them. Look at ID1 + ID2 lit up in Blue in left column... then directly to the right in the right column you see "Threshold of Low Pressure ( Low Level )" 27.2 ---- That is what can not be changed. At least I can't find a way, nor have I read or seen anyone do it.
