Ford vs Toyota
Both are fairly decent vehicles, for the most part - and both companies have been called on the carpet for problems. Today, I would not feel bad about buying either one.
Were I in the market for a new family car, I might lean towards a Toyota. The Corolla, Camry and Avalon are probably slightly better in comparison to similar Fords (Focus, Fusion, Taurus, etc.); but Ford has greatly improved their way of doing things.
For a more sporty vehicle, Ford has almost no competitors (except maybe for the Camaro from Chevy or the Nissan 370Z) for its Mustang GT.
I have driven four different Mustang GT coupes ('88, '93, '95 and an '08) - each of which I liked. The 2010 Mustang GT is awesome, and the 2011 is going to be even better with the "all new" 5.0L that will have 400+ ponies on tap! That being said, the market segment for those cars is smaller than for traditional sedans.
Ford's new 2011 Fiesta is supposed to be an awesome ride, but they are not out yet. I saw a prototype at an auto show last month - and I really liked it (though it was the Euro version). It is aimed at the Honda Fit, Scion xD and other such cars.
Regarding trucks, there is nothing wrong with a Taco or Tundra; but the full-size Ford rigs have a lot going for them. A co-worker has a great 2009 F-150 FX4 and it is nicer than another fellow's 2008 Tundra (in my opinion). With the Super Duty (F-250 and up), Toyota doesn't even make a comparable truck (until you get heavy enough for their Hino line) - and the Ford PowerStroke diesel (sourced from International) is truly a workhorse from hell that just won't die. There are thousands of them rolling down the highway with over half a million miles on them!
As for the Exploder, I guess that wasn't Ford's best vehicle - but I know a guy with 280,000 miles on his late-1990s 4x4. Maybe he got lucky. My aunt has a 2003 and is happy with it; so they're not all junkers.
Bottom line: For a full-sized truck that will do any work, Ford gets the nod. For a performance/pony car, score 1 for Ford. Family sedan? Toyota! Personal compact truck? Toyota again. Police patrol? Obviously the Ford Crown Vic is king of the hill (we used them when I was a deputy sheriff) - at least until the Caprice returns for 2011.

Agree with Skyline.
I know Ford's in and out, as I have a family of Ford drivers, my brother recently having I beleive an '09 4x4 Explorer. I love Ford's, and will always love to drive a Ford aside from my 4runner. Sometimes you do have some mechanical problems on certain Fords, but I even had a '00 Ford E-350 XLT Super Duty 15 passenger, and can tell you now, that thing was a tank inside and out. Did nice on the long haul drives, and can haul out more than its' own weight, as Ford is built to haul over 10x its' own. Example, my bro used to have a '94 F-250 (thing was all steel, weighed tons) and we hauled that thing from Gulfport, Miss. back here to San Anto, TX all smooth going. Also been hit by someone going over 70 mph and didn't even dent the back end, but crushed theirs passed the wheelbase.
Don't count Fords out yet, as I can speak a good word for them.
But, I don't count Toyota out as they have made quality as well, despite their newest accel probs, etc.
Both Ford & Toyota kick some major ass :gun4:
*EDIT::: Ford will also be rolling out w/ their new 2010 Taurus as the replacement for the Crown Vic in 2011 and that's a police cruiser for the gods.... that thing would roll over me 3 times over and still just rinse the blood of the front steel bumper.

Lol, actually no. I was at a yeild on 410 & Marbach and some lady I guess was like doin her makeup or somethin and went around that corner pretty hard and smacked the back end of the E-350 (steel bumper). Pulled into McyD's and checked both, hers was smashed in at/past the wheelbase, and all you saw was her paint on the bumper heh :lol:
The only thing it didn't stand against was my pops Jeep when it was accidently backed into the side rear passenger door and dented in the exterior of it (was rammed into it pretty rough, tipped the van & lifted the back end of the Jeep)
haha in a way, it's funny seein how mean you can be to a car/truck.

i have only owned mt runner but can say that if i had the funds i would def get a 2009-2010 F250 Super Duty. Those things look beastly and freakin huge though not great on gas...

For those of you who like the 2008 to 2010 trucks with the 6.4L and the '03 to '07 6.0L "Powerstroke" diesels, just wait until you get a chance to see the early-release of the 2011 Super Duty F-Series!
There are a few of them on the market now, but supplies are limited as of right now. Ford has discontinued sourcing their PowerStroke turbodiesel engines from Navistar/International. They now build them "in house" and the engine is known as the "Scorpion" - although they still use the PowerStroke name and emblem on the fender.
The new V8 block displaces 6.7 liters and is rated at 395 horsepower and 725 pounds/feet of torque!! More remarkable is that the fuel mileage is 30 to 40 percent better than the previous 6.4L - and the engine is much quieter, with less 'clatter' than any other Ford diesel truck. Emissions are greatly reduced as well, since the truck runs on ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel (15 ppm or less) and is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (sort of an afterburner used to eliminate much of the soot that results from combustion).
I am not in the market for such a truck and could never afford one; but I drive big rigs for a living and have always had a soft spot for these torquey monsters.

I been reading about the Scorpion in diesel power and would to drive it, but I don't like how it looks. I love the 05-07 and the 99-04 PSD's as they look very good and have good engines. however the new LML Dmax claims to have more power but the Ford can tow and haul more. I'll just wait and see.

The Duramax is pretty good - but I would probably lean towards the Ford for "heavy duty" work; and I can say that because I currently own a 2004 Silverado half-ton that I purchased used.

Even if the GM Duramax in the Chevy (or the Cummins-powered Dodge) puts out more power than the Ford PowerStroke, keep in mind that Ford makes one hell of a truck when it comes to overall toughness (frame, axles, springs, etc.). The Super Duty is a pretty rough beast, and the looks are second to none!

97 Explorer vs 03 4runner
My last ride was a 97 explorer sport. Had a 4.0 litre v6, and one day it started to have issues starting and bucked when i would give it gas. Found out i cracked the head, mechanaic showed me the .125" space between the valves. He says that Ford cast them too thin and those particular blocks were known for this. So i hunted n found a 03 sport v8 with only 16k on it in Nashua NH. Guy wanted $25k i offered $20k. What a steal! Gotta get some new un scratched body moldings and the OEM hood shield dug into the paint n steel, so its goin to a body shop soon.
Tryin now to talk my spouse into getting a toyota. She might wanna GMC Terrain vs a Highlander. Any thoughts on how i can persuade her to keep us a toyota family?

lol no worries. Despite Toyota's recalls on their accels for those little Prius' cars or w/e they were, Toyota is known highly for their quality, and you can find that especially in a 4runner. Believe me, I own an older model (2nd gen, a '92) and I could be smacked by someone goin a decently high speed and I can drive away afterwards w/ only a minor dent.
They are known for their quality, have a high resale value (though dropped recently due to that accel issue), and are very friendly, as you can do alot with it for any situation your in. It may be just a little bit of a gas guzzler, (mine gets 20 mpg) but it isn't a money pit.
& here's a small compliment to the accel issues. Some of it, as a few friends of mine & I had discussed, is that the accel probs are some Toyota fault, but alot of it is also driver error (slamming the thing into park, ripping the E-brake and pushing full throttle onto that brake pedal, isn't really the way to go....).
Let her know from an older gen 4runner owner, that the thing is an excellent truck, is very spacious, is good for the long drives, it'll get you out of a tight spot, and you only have to seldom waiste money on it (oil change, tire rotation, etc. but no major mech problems whatsoever)
If she's not convinced, I'd say just get the belt and tell her your gettin a 4runner anyways.
*EDIT: GMC by the way, has tanked from what I remember, and I think it'd be better to go w/ a manufacturer you know will still be sticking around to give you your warranty, etc.
