I've recieved 2 postcards about this settlement, since I own a 2010 4R. (My vin # includes me as a class member) May I ask, "What are most of you 2010 owners doing, concerning this settlement" ?
A previous thread found several users vocally opposed to the settlement because they a) disagree with the class action system as they understand it and b) never experienced any problems or harm themselves.
Point A is clearly a personal opinion and to each his/her own.
Point B is a common misunderstanding. This settlement offers payment to owners for damage done to the reputation of Toyota vehicles caused by the accelerator problems. It is
not a payment for any harm or physical symptom in your vehicle, but rather the presumed decrease in resale value. Essentially, the problems were widely publicized and potentially caused some used car buyers to avoid Toyotas, thus lowering the market value of the vehicle.
I did not request to be included in the class settlement, primarily because I purchased by T4R pre-owned and thus presumably already benefited from any drop in resale price.
There are several options (file claim, object, exclude, do nothing) and each has it's own consequences and deadlines. It's worth checking out
Toyota Economic Loss Settlement Website to see the options and the deadlines (some of which are May 13, 2013).
