Toytec Boss - Vibration Diagnosis - Pic Heavy

So I'm sure some of you have seen me griping on here about my new vibration I have (60mph+) after installing Toytec Boss and BF Goodrich KO2s. Well I have been doing some heavy searching trying to pin down the issue.

So a quick recap, I had the lift installed and got new aftermarket UCAs and new lower ball joints also. The vibration was much worse, however, I had the shop rebalance and adjust the alignment and it got better... But still bad enough that I can't see myself driving it like that after spending all of this money.

I have noticed that if I am going down the highway at ~65 while I am feeling the vibration I can put the T4R in neutral and the vibration goes away, or at least seems to. I still have the factory wheels and tires from pre-lift. I am thinking of putting those wheels/tires back on and testing it out. If it were a balance issue this should isolate that correct?

I saw someone this morning saying something about upgrading to the new style steering rack guide. I got down and looked and I already have that. The shop that did my lift told me it looks like someone had the steering rack replaced recently. (I have only had the 4runner for a couple of months)

I am posting a bunch of pictures. Everything is extremely clean. The discoloration on the steering rack is some oil splatter from a leaking valve cover I just recently tightened. Does anything look out of the ordinary. CV axle angle? Tie rods? Anything? I am desperate. Thanks!!

Put your old wheels and tires on and see if it gets any better.

I'm thinking its either your wheels aren't balanced correctly or your alignment wasn't done correctly.

A poorly balanced wheel typically gets vibrations around 55mph-65mph

The fact that you say it changes when you put the transmission in Neutral makes me suspect it's something with the rear, possibly driveshaft pinion angle.

How much lift did you do here? Those CV joints look like they're at a pretty substantial angle compared to what I'm used to seeing on mine. It could be that you have one that's worn out and adding more angle made it more apparent.

Approximately 2.5 inches in the front. Both sides appear to the same in appearance angle wise. I tugged on them and don't get any movement... But I agree, the angles look pretty harsh. Even the shop agreed.

I'm assuming you put in a diff-drop?

Whats your mid hub to fender measurements? If your measurements are more than 22.5-23 inches, theres a good chance your lift is more than 2.5-3 inches which could explain the steep angles.

So when it "seems" to go away when in nuetral, does it go away, or does it not? Does it only shake when under load, or also when just coasting but in gear?

All I see in the pictures that throw red flags are the worn sway bar endlink bushings, and aftermarket LBJs... The latter of which COULD be why it got worse after you replaced the UCAs and LBJs.

When the vehicle shakes, does the steering wheel shake?

Edit** Looking again... Your CVs are pretty angeled, but I doubt that's an issue that wwould cause the shakes. And that grease everywhere is a turn off

It appears from the picture that your LBJ is leaking. That would be a big concern to me.

Diff drop was installed.

Measured just a minute ago. 23.5 on both sides.

It goes away. I tried it out again this morning.

No I don't believe so, I just had them replaced two weeks ago. That was excess grease. Its been there since the install, before it had even been driven.

It goes away. I tried it out again this morning.

Well, if the vibration goes away when there's no load then you should be looking at your universal joints, double cardan (large double universal between the driveshaft and the transfer case, or the pinion bearing, ( caused by excessive pinion angle - look at how your rear differential points more parallel to the ground but the driveshaft "connects" at an extreme angle) Post up some side pics of your lift so we can see what kind of lift you have working. Also, what brand of LBJ did you use? It's's fairly well proven that only OEM LBJs hold up on our truck, and since it's such a crucial part (and not real that much more money than the better quality NAPA LBJs) it's really a no brainer purchase. .

Toyota LBJs don't have excess leaking grease, even when new or 50k miles.

I'm I missing something or is that the toytec ultimate kit coil overs? I just installed a boss kit w/diff drop about 3 weeks ago on my 01 and have the same damn vibration which only starts at around 55mph to about 75mph. Haven't had time to try to diagnose it yet. Like yours I'm thinking it is related to rear driveshaft, u joints.

And they are Moogs. I know they don't have a good reputation but that's what went on there. Have a year warranty and I don't get off the pavement. I'll keep an eye on them. If I have issues I'll go with OEM

does the vibration go away if you are in 4wd? do you have an adjustable panhard bar to re center the rear axel?
