Toytec Not So Great Warranty Service

So how do you apply an oil undercoat? What do you use? Do you think it helps?

yes I bring it to a place in VT that puts holes with plugs in all the door panels. They spray a high end type of engine oil in the panels and also all under the body and wheel wells. They say to do it twice a year but I only do it once. I think it is pretty bad for anything rubber...hoses..seals etc as it kind of ruins them fast. So you fix one thing and ruin another?

I do think it helps. More so to keep nuts and bolts lubed for removal without a torch. I make sure I have it oiled after all maintenance and repairs are complete as it drips oil bad for like 3 days. you have to continually wipe it off your paint to as not to ruin that! I also park it on dirt so its not in my driveway. It cost $100 for one treatment. I think it is worth it. I do wash the car often and the undercarriage but that only has helped me minimal. I also spray off my car after salty gear has been on top of the roof...still minimal results.

There are other methods like POR, wax...but mine was already rusty after the second year I owned her so I went with oil undercoating.

Right now i have to have the back hatch painted and rusty bubbles removed from around the rear window gaskets. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can buy new rubber seals that go around the window trim?

All four of my door handles are seeping a rusty waterfall because there is a washer and nut inside that is not stainless. I did see the post to fix that...but I don't think I'm up to that challenge of jury rigging the parts. So I just keep compounding the rust stains off my paint and she looks pretty for awhile.

The latest rusty mess is that my cow catcher (westin sportsman) is totally rusted out. pain to get my driving lights off it to ship back. Good thing warranty covered it! cost me $40 for install of a new one. But the original only lasted 4 1/2 years before the rust took over. I did hit several Bambies so I feel kind of naked without the grill guard. :blah:

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but it seems like you are trying to blame Bilstein and Toytec for a poor install. Both companies have great reputations for quality products and service.

If I recall correctly, you had Monroe shocks originally. Why, I have no idea, especially since you claim the stock ones were so great. Then you had some shady mechanic throw Bilsteins on. The mechanic you used even put the spring perches on the front Bilsteins UPSIDE DOWN on the first attempt at the install, and you had multiple other issues that you had to resolve. After re-reading your thread from last year and this thread, it sounds to me like you know nothing about working on cars, and your mechanic sucks. Hate to break it to you but many people run these same parts and abuse them offroad and do not have issues. You had a shitty installer, and are trying to blame the parts companies that manufacture/sold you the shocks.

you are 100 percent correct. I know not much about the mechanics of cars...matter of fact I pretty much spell that out in my previous posts. and that is why i go to this site because I do not trust mechanics and mine have particularly sucked. I will say I have had some pretty bad work done at dealerships too. Like the one who didn't put the O ring on my wheel bearing. Another story. And yes the guy who put my billies in upside down. If i didn't have this site I would not have know since my mechanic didn't. I did not have Monroe shocks originally. I had Toyota OEM shocks and struts. When they failed I had Monroes put on I noticed how bad the car handled and I figured out, with the help of this site that they sucked. So I had the Billys put on and they are 100 percent better. Even if the shocks were a shitty install, do you think my shocks should look so bad after barely one year on the car? Remember it was the corrosion condition of the shock that Toytec said "NO warranty", not an over torque reason. It was not until I contacted Bilstein did they say it was not corrosion but an over torque. At least that answer sounds more reasonable to even us female dipshits as you so bluntly put. I did not blame Toytec and I certainly did not blame Bilstien. I said that I was told that my mechanic over torqued my shocks and that is why they failed. It was an information post on my experience. I stated from the beginning it was NOT to bash Toytec. So I guess what your saying is this site is for motor heads only? Us that know nothing are not allowed? All along I thought it was for 4runner lovers.

Bad install, no warranty coverage. . . . whatever. What i got out of this thread is 2 things. First, thank you OP for pointing out the over torque issue and what can happen. I had to pay a reputable shop to do mine because I have had no time to deal with it myself. I looked at mine and sure enough it was over torqued. . . . fixed it that very day. Secondly I see that Toytec seems to have bad service when it comes to warranty issues. According to the OP they lied to her about contacting Bilstein about warranty because Bilstein said they never did. To me that is inexcusable and I hope I never have an issue since I bought mine from Toytec also. Doubt I will since Bilstein quality is some of the best. So, thank you swj for bringing this to our attention. Most shocks you tighten until you run out of threads. . . . seems Billies have more threads than most.
