Toytec superflex installed and now problems

The thing is I did not take off my shocks while installing the superflex, well I did but I just unbolted the bottom and not the top, but it does make sense with the washers

The spring isolators or bump stops in your rear spring are those stock? Reasin im asking is because my 4runner does not have those and i was missing my rear bump stops and am now wondering if i am missing those as well.

Soooo I had my gopro mounted up and watched the video a handful of times everything seems to look good, upon inspection I'm 90% sure the noise is coming from my coils????? I got under and tried bouncing as much as I could and and tried holding on to the coils, really seems like the upper part of the coil is slapping each other because it's tighter? Which Im pretty damn sure what's causing the "CLANK" sound, any superflex owners out there please give some input on this and if yours were doin the same

Yup getting the exact same thing. Bounced the truck on a lift and it was the only thing making noise.
When the ass is heavy with gear and compresses the springs I don't get it as much.

Yeah I'm a bit confused as to why that happends, I mean I guess it is rated for heavy rear weight and I have stock bumpers and only have a subwoofer and a tool box so not much weight back there....maybe when the coils settle a bit more it won't be as bad, honestly it's kinda embarrassing when I go over speed bumps lol

The reason its happening is the top coils are designed to sit compressed at ride height and expand when flexed to prevent the coil from falling out. When you go over a bump the rear end hits free fall for a split second and becomes weight less. Because the springs have tension on them they push the axle down faster then the ass naturally falls and the coils expand, and when the ass catches up it compresses the springs again and the top coils make some noise when they come in contact again.

This drove me nuts for the longest time. I pretty much did all my mods at the same time and thought it was the gas tank hitting the frame after I moved it over.
Even after figuring it out hearing some one else having the same "symptoms" helps put my mind at ease. (That it's not my gas tank)

Did you do anything to kinda prevent it? I guess I'm in that whatever mode already , it's not too bad now when I go over speed bumps I just have to drive over super SLOOOOOOOOOWW and try not to make the rear end twerk lol

Have you watched my video? Is there a way you can try and do what I did? Just layed under and pushed the body up and make it bounce and see if it makes the same noise?

It's funny this is my first post on here. I was on YT for years before this, but I couldn't find anyone with this issue. Anyways...
I've been having the same noise since installing my superflex coils ~5 months ago. I searched and searched but couldn't figure it out. I still haven't fix it yet, but I think I might have found a solution. In your video it looks like you are using the 5125 Bilsteins from Toytech. I have the same shock set up, but after hearing the noise, I searched on their site to see if I spec'd the shocks with the springs. I was thinking the shocks were bottoming out. Turns out, they suggest using the 5100 long travels:
"These are long travel rear Bilstein 5100 series shocks outfitted to work with your 3rd Gen 4Runner and should only be used with our Toytec Superflex 024RCB coils or long rear lift coil springs. "

After reading this thread, I don't think I'm bottoming out the shock, I think the coil aren't "extended" enough at ride height, so the coils are hitting each other during the suspension travel.
I have the 5100's in my garage to install this weekend. I'll chime in if it solves the problem...

Holy crap dude :amen: I'm SOOOOO glad you came to this post BTW :welcome: after I've read your comment it all now makes sense....I really hope you get the chance on swapping to the 5100's , really want a feed back so I know I need to get them ASAP

I was reading through here and was at a lost also. I do know I have 7 wraps that are almost as tall and with LC Tokico shocks dont have the issue but they do have a longer travel. Hope this is what fixes it for you guys!

The 5125's are not going to be bottoming out with this setup. the 5125's are good for 2-4 inches of lift and the 5100's they recommend are actually longer than the 5125's.
I would give Toytec a call. They have always been super helpful to me.
Seems to me this could only be the problem if the shocks were fully extended at ride height. Meaning the rear axle had no down travel at all... I could be misunderstanding though. It wouldn't be the first time.

Yes but if you look at the pics I've posted on page2 the 7wraps are more similar to the ome coils where they are more spread apart as to the superflex the upper part of the coil is closer to eachother....I just hope Atomic6 weekend project solves both of our problems lol

Yes it is more of a progressive than linear coil. Hopefully you guys do figure it out.
