TPMS 'rebuild'

Mavis Tire in my town has a small display on their counter explaining why you need to pay for the TPM "rebuild kit" they offer. It's basically just an o-ring and a new valve stem core.

Personally, I think it's more of a money-making scheme than anything else.

Ding! I've swapped tires on my 03 a few times and in spite of being a year before Toyota put the TPMS computer in the truck... there ARE sensors in the wheels... There is NO Need to fiddle with the TPMS sensors during a tire change... In fact it is best if they touch them AS LITTLE as possible... remove the valve stem is all that needed... and what are those worth? 25 cents?

I have a TPMS system on my other daily driver and those sensors have lasted 10 years with ZERO serving.

I replace the oring and valve core on all of my TPMS wheels with every second set of tires. I have had the oring on some develop a slow leak which is a PITA because I have 4 female drivers. $20 to replace the orings is way easier than a ruined tire/wheel and towing bill.

Well. I checked it with 6.01.023. No changes, same error when communicating with tpms system :(

May be I must try an older version?

I try a newer version 6.10.041. It works! Some errors during tpms system check, but finally it show sensor ids, pressure, etc

$6 is cheaper than what I was quoted a month ago at Tire Kingdom. I carried in a set of tires, to be put on my stock wheels and they wanted to charge me almost $260 to mount them! They said I needed to rebuild my TPMS and it would be $24 each. I have had a few sets of tires and no one ever told me that before so I told him not to do it, he said they were required to. I even spoke to the manager. Ended up going across the street and paying just over $100 (less than half tire kingdom) at tires plus, and they even road force balanced. If they rebuilt my sensors it was definitely cheaper than Tire Kingdom. I will never go to Tire Kingdom again. I think they try to scam you.
