TPMS Woes....

Ok I find this a bit odd personally. I'm driving along on the interstate no big deal and the TPMS light starts flashing. Again no biggie most TPMS systems work the same. So I think of flashing normally means bad sensor. But, I check the pressures to be sure all at proper PSI. Now to figure out what sensor is out. Firestone couldn't get any of the 5 to send a signal. Tread Quaters, Midas, and a mom and pop shop could get the drivers only once. So this brings me to question has anyone had all 5 crap out at the same time? I don't want to disable the system so that's out. But I find it hard to believe they all went out at the same time. If it's the relay they should still be sending they're perspective RF signals correct? I'm honestly a bit puzzled. If it is the sensors any recommendations on which after market brand? The stealership isn't getting my money at 78 bucks a pop..... Thanks guys and gals!

I personally hate the TPMS system and would rather just check and air up my tires every few months myself. When mine goes bad I am disabling it. The $78 price per tire is actually very good compared to around here. I had one go out a couple years back and it was $125 to replace.

I believe the TPMS saved a tire for me a couple of years back. The light came on while hwy driving, I was able to get stopped and change the tire before it was completely flat. Hence I am a TPMS believer. SAMS & COSTCO have better sensor replacement prices although $78 is not too bad.

SAMs is cheap as f@&k $15 per tire but I'd never let a glorified Wal-Mart Technician touch any of my cars. And they can't get the OEM like sensor any more supposedly. They can only get the normal crappy rubber shaft ones that leak horribly.

Firestone only wants $23 per tire mostly bc the GM is in my GTO club :bounce:

Stealership price was for the part and only the part the Service attendant was going to quote me 1 hour of labor per tire I said thanks and began to walk away.

I'm still a bit curious to know if anyone ever had more than one crap out at the exact same time? All 5 at once baffles me. Or is there any other reason besides dead batteries that they'd all stop sending their RF signals....

Is it possible to reuse TPMS off someone else's truck? Mine are just sitting here doing nothing. I will never put that crap in my truck again.

If you get one of the knockoff Techstream cables / software, you can read what the sensors are reporting in realtime to determine which ones are actually bad and verify your shop's findings. Even better, it will let you reprogram the system to monitor for different sensor IDs if you replace your sensors to avoid a costly trip to the dealership. Used Toyota sensors can be found on eBay for ~$10 each, but no guarantee on how much battery life they have left.

Just another option for you, that's the route I'm doing now to replace 2 of my sensors that failed.

For about $60 I got an aftermarket TPMS with external sensors, so I never have to worry about the expensive stock crap again. And instead of an idiot light I get an actual psi reading for each wheel. It has the ability to add a sensor for a spare but I don't feel the need for it.

So the TPMS sensors magically started working again about a week ago. I am still very puzzled on this. When my tires wear out I will bite the bullet and replace all 5 to be sure.
