Traction control kicking in on hill....

I have had this happen to me before. I talked to another 5th gen owner and a dealer tech. We went out on a test drive and tried three things; the first one was a normal stop and take off. My truck did exactly what is being said in the post. The second a normal stop but on the take off I applied pressure on the gas peddle at the same time I was releasing pressure off the brake peddle (just like a manual transmission), all was fine not clicking or lights. The third and final time, we read the manual and came to a normal stop but this this time we applied more pressure on the brake as we came to a stop and then applied more pressure in the brake peddle. The end result my truck did not roll back, no clicking or lights. The truck started off normal and we went back to the dealer to drop off the tech. Try step three see if it works and yes reading the manual on paper is cool but an app will be great. My truck is a 2011 SR5 model stock. Good luck.:beer::beer::beer:

From page 267 of the 2012 manual:

If the vehicle is in danger of slipping or rolling backward when starting on an incline, or if any of the drive wheels spins, the slip indicator flashes to indicate that the VSC/TRAC/hill-start assist control systems are operating.

The stop lights and high mounted stoplight turn on and a buzzer (intermittent) sounds when the hill-start assist control system is operating.

If one didn't know it was traction control kicking in, how would one know it was that?..... I wondered why hill start assist was not working, so I looked at that entry in the manual. Only then did I realize that might be the cause of the horrible noise and explanation why the traction control light was coming on.

Since you asked, by reading the manual BEFORE you have an issue or questions. We ALL were new owners once, difference is I read my manual cover to cover the night I picked mine up.

Truth is even if one reads the manual and even if that person feels self righteous for doing so, one quite possibly would still be unsure if traction control should be kicking in on dry pavement as supposed hill start assist. And one well-read self righteous person quite possibly would think hill start assist actually would prevent his truck from rolling backward instead of shuddering.

I read the manual and read the HSA entry again before posting and nothing in the manual clearly explains how this works, and whether that behavior is expected when one is not on a loose or slippery surface.

Idk how anyone can call you a jerk when you bak up your post with facts.

Also my 4th gen does this when it rolls backwards an it makes popping and creaking like ATTRAC does and then beeps at me before stopping. I assumed that was some kinda hill assist

I can see why someone might get confused about it. I've tested the hill start assist feature on various inclines. On my driveway with a slight incline - the truck rolls backwards very slowly and there's no hill start assist kicking in. On a steeper hill when it rolls back more abruptly the hill start assist kicks in right away.

If i'm on a steep hill where I can't afford to rollback at all - like someone stops right on your bumper - I'd never depend on the hill start assist to assist anything. Just use both feet...

I read my manual cover to cover, too...and watched some of the video demos.
I gotta be honest, several of the systems didn't exactly function as I expected them to, one of them being the HAC. I expected the damn thing to hold me on the hill like my '82 Subaru. No muss no fuss.
The other thing that kinda scared the bejesus outta me was Crawl Control at the lowest setting.

Someone mentioned setting the brake a little harder while on the hill, I'm going to try that next time.

+1 for the hill start assist not actually preventing me from rolling back. I get the usual 'twang' of the ABS system kicking in and the beeping, but my vehicle still rolls backwards. sometimes as much as a couple feet. It definitely slows my roll back but it seems worthless if it doesn't actually prevent roll back....

This is why i dont think HAC has kicked in. This is just traction control which is why trac control light comes on. We all have HAC which when kicks in, a chime activates, different light comes on and acually keeps you from rolling back.

Oh man, really? Many of us are friends off line in real life and trust me when I say that "You're a jerk Philly!" was meant as a good natured friendly joke. I have no clue what getting 5 points means but PRETTY PLEASE reconsider the bans. I promise that no malice / insult was intended or received.
