traction control???

hey guys i wanted your help on this annoying problem! last year in the snow when i would try to stop at a med-high speed my brake would kick back at me and scare the hell out of me. i was wondering if it was the traction control in 4x4 or if its somthing else??? if it is traction control how do i disengage it for those special winter days???:cheers:

You have two options that I am aware of.

1. The Bagel Mod is a long term fix. I plan on doing it in the next few weeks.

2. This is a "quick fix". You can disable the whole thing (and ABS) by unplugging this. It will at least get you out doing some donuts without getting your hands too dirty (picture from username: lee)

i think thats all i want to do but i cant find it on my 2000 4runner V6 nothing looks like anything in the picture where would i find that on mine????

You don't have traction control, just abs.

Yes, and to disable the ABS you can just pull the fuse in the engine bay. Be aware though, that the fuse is screwed in from underneath so it won't just pull out from the top. You must unscrew the whole fuse block, flip it upside-down and remove the screw that holds the ABS fuse in. Still only takes 10 or 15 minutes, but you'll break the fuse if you just try to pull it out like a normal one. The ABS light will stay constantly on in the dash. My ABS in my '97 almost killed me more than once, no sh!t. I narrowly avoided driving into a river once and almost crashed through someone's living room another time. I can stop in 10 feet now what the ABS would have taken 30 or 40 feet to stop in. Sometimes in the perfect snow conditions, it actually made me speed up and disengaged the brakes altogether.

idk i just looked at the picture on my phone and went out and looked under the hood and nothing looks like whats in the picture to give me a frame of reference but what im just going to do is find the fuse then follow the cable...do u think that would work???:hatsoff:

I found it in my 01 V6. Drivers side firewall. the pic was taken from the drivers side fender if that helps you at all

I have noticed that sometimes mine doesn't want to stop in the distance it normally would and I end up pushing the peddle to the floor to get it to avoid going into a intersection, the car in front of me and so on. I wonder if disconnecting that pigtail will help that.

What's your year? 4x4? Put some details about your truck in your sig and it helps us to help you. Many 3rd gens have no traction control or even ABS. Does it pulse the brakes in the situation you're talking about? The pulsing is the ABS. If it just doesn't stop fast enough, you may need new pads, calipers, fluid or bleed the system, etc..

I don't know if its different or not but I can find whats in that pic on my 01 V6 2WD. That's all I'm referring to is where that pigtail is on mine. On mine if you pop the hood and stand at the drivers side headlight and look to the right of the engine and behind the battery. That tank and all the pigtails and junk are right there connected to the firewall. So I don't know if it will work but you can try disconnecting the pigtail that is plugged in right below the tank.

01 V6 2WD has traction control and abs. It stops just fine normally and there are times it just doesn't stop. I use the normal presser for the stop but the truck wants to take 2x or more the distance to stop. I almost ended up at the bottom of a 120+Ft cliff a few weeks ago cuz it wanted to take longer to stop.

im just trying to fix this problem that ONLY happens in bad weather conditions...the brake kicks back at me and i take forever to stop because of it you guys are saying its the ABS
