Trade Lexus IS300 for Subaru WRX?

Hey all, Looking for some random opinions.

Long story short, I picked up a VW GTI for really cheap, sold it well, and bought a 2002 Lexus IS300. The IS300 is an "extra" car for me (my main car is the 4Runner, and I have a Prius for my wife). I wanted a "fun" car to drive around and help keep the miles off my 4Runner. In the end I want to stick with an IS but not necessarily the one I have. The one I have is black and auto; I want a silver 5-speed.

I have an offer to trade the IS300 for a 2002 Subaru WRX(plus cash). The WRX is alittle beat up but it has 60k less miles than the IS and the extra cash is always nice. I would like to get into rally or auto cross and clearly the WRX would be an easier build than the IS.

I'm a through and through Toyota guy so the WRX immediately loses points. As a "toy" car anyone have any thoughts?

Lexus hands down. They look a 100x better imo and I'll take the luxury over the practicality any day. But thats what I like in my extra car. Luxury, style, and fun. That's what my Z is. Fully loaded, nice sound system, perfect exhaust note. I can't wait to drive it in the morning. I've actually looked at the IS many times to replace my Z. Very nice cars.
 
Funny, I just went round after round trying to convince a buddy to get an IS instead of a WRX. Alas, he went with the subaru.

I'm partial to the looks of the IS's, and personally think them more of an adult car vs wrx as a high school/college boys car (flame on:peep:). That said, the wrx is a great car, and I really don't disapprove of anyone driving it, just personal preference. I have found the wrx's to ride a bit rough. I prefer the smoother feeling ride of an almost-luxury car, if I'm going to be in a car. The selling point for me was that the IS also comes in awd, at that point it was no contest in forming opinion years ago and I entirely plan on upgrading to an IS once my '94 escamry300 finally kicks the bucket (at 150k I think it might be a while though). Plus, I don't like subaru's reputation for blowing head gaskets every 100k, though that boxer engine is freaking sweeeeeet otherwise.

WRX would be my choice.. Lexus will be more reliable.. But WRX is way more bad ass.. Extra cash is always nice too.. Just get the WRX inspected before you pull the trigger
 
Do you really want a wrx where there is a 90% chance it has been used and abused? I have thought about a wrx so many times but the thought of someone else doing the abuse and not doing proper up keep always steers me away. I would only buy from a 1 owner who has all service records on the vehicle, otherwise I'll save up for a new one.

That's true for any vehicle on the road. Sports car or not.
