Trail Edition in Shoreline Blue Pearl?

you special ordered your trail and it came in 1 month?
what the heck is a wolo horn?

Yeah, I placed a "preference request" and put down a $500 deposit, after doing all the research and negotiation (no one wanted to sell me a TE in SBP, much less with all the options) online via email, on 2/16 and I drove it off the showroom floor on 3/12... a little over 3 weeks.

A Wolo Horn is just another after market horn like Fiamm, but carried by the O'Reilly Auto Parts (they bought out Schuck's/Kragen/Checker or vice versa) around the corner: click to hear it.

There is a Shoreline Blue 4runner TE sitting down here at the dealership in St. Thomas (only 4runner they have in stock), and the the color def. looks great in person; pictures don't do it justice. Too bad the shipping and customs duty down here add about $9K to the price...

We did it! Thanks to the help of this forum and all the tips on where to find invoice prices and what others have paid.....we signed the paperwork last night and are waiting for the dealership to locate our vehicle.

We purchased a Shoreline Blue Trail for $34,233.

We "requested" that if they have to get the vehicle from the factory...we asked that they "delete" the sliding cargo deck. I really do NOT like it, and I don't think my dog is going to be a fan of sitting on it either. Has anyone sucessfully gotten a TE without that silly thing?

don't think they can delete it as the sliding cargo tray is standard to the Trail Edition. my dogs don't seem to give a hoot about it, fwiw.

saw a shoreline blue trail similar to SeattleMike's at a dealer a few weeks back. the color looked great to me!

Thanks sandcrawler. I was originally looking at the Salsa Red and the Blue....but SeattleMike's pictures really helped me make the decision.

Glad to hear the dogs aren't bothered by the tray...I doubt they can delete it either, but I had to give it a shot.

How do you feel about the tray? Have you found it useful at all, or is it just in the way?

well, i haven't used it yet, but that doesn't necessarily say anything. i've been busy the last month and have only thrown down a couple blankets over the rear tray and the backseat until i have some time to putter around a bit more.

You will hate it until you have a ton of stuff in your cargo area and you try to slide it out. Then, you will like it. I'm not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, but it's nice to have.

Welcome to the TE club and congrats on getting a great price! Did you skip the Nav unit?

Thanks Seattle. Had a '99 SR5 5-speed that I loved and I'm happy to be back with a 5th gen.

Yes we skipped the Nav...I can't give up my road atlas. ;-) We also don't have a need for the KDSS. We live in NJ but drive to VT most weekends in the winter, so we need a good 4x4 but we're not really "off-roaders"...unless you count an occasional logging trail.

I'm happy with the price...I really tried for $34k "even" but just couldn't make it fly...but I did get him to add the $233 dollars that I paid over $34k to my trade-in so that satisfied me.

We are going to add leather and heated seats....probably after the summer...we'll see how the cloth wears with the dogs nails on it.

I know I'm not the first to do this, but I wanted to share:

I took off the front bumper to see where everything was and then put my license plate where it looks best.

Unfortunately, these plates get replaced by my personalized plates in a few weeks, so I'll have to do it all over again, but maybe without removing the entire bumper.

I believe only the rear plates only require the month and year sticker.

Yes, in Wa state we only need to put month and year stickers on the back plate.

I was adamant about them not drilling the front bumper because I saw some else's plate in that spot on a thread here and I thought it looked great. The plate was trimmed to fit, but if I had to put the stickers on it, I still could... right above the second "08".

Is the license plate in that position going to affect airflow to cool the rad and engine? Just wondering how much air flows in the lower grille?

I drove it pretty hard around downtown Seattle (all hills) and then in rush hour freeway traffic and I didn't notice any rise in temperature from where it usually sits. The area behind the grill is mostly empty space, easily three cubic feet, so I don't think airflow will ever be an issue.

So looking at how the bumper comes off and all I was thinking when it comes time for after market bumpers.... what are they going to be like. The last gen was sorta straight across, right. This looks like it is all over the place and what about the grill, can that be removed from the rest of the bumper and put back on??? I guess we will see..:wow2:

The bottom grill piece where I put my plate can be left out. With the TE, the black plastic over-piece that looks like a rubber bumper can be replaced as it's only attached by tabs that slide out once you have the front facia removed.

But everything between the headlights and from the hoodline down came off as one piece. I'll take better pics when I put on my new plates, but from what I remember, I don't see how you make an after market bumper without requiring some cutting of the front fascia, or all out replacement. It all hangs off the top 4 bolts, had some tabs on the sides and screws on the bottom, but it's not actually connected to the frame directly. There is a single piece of styrofoam between the fascia and the looks-just-like-aluminum bumper.

And there isn't going to be any gain in approach angle putting an aftermarket bumper on a TE because the factory set up basically wrapped the fascia under the metal bumper and took it straight back to the wheel well. I'll post better pics in a few weeks.
