I went to a dealership parts department today and was told the same thing Jeff M was told, in order to get the 2014 Trail running boards you have to order them piece by piece for a total of $1,600+. The parts guy told me that based on the part numbers that these particular running boards will never be able to be purchased as a full unit like the 2010-13 running boards currently are. He said the 2014 Trail running boards are a factory only item. With the 10-13 running boards the part number, PT938-89100, the PT signifies a port installed item, not a factory installed item. When he searched his database for a 2014 4Runner Trail PT938-89100 comes up, which are the 10-13 running boards that have the silver trim with holes as seen in pictures in this thread. I saw the part # on his screen and where it showed he searched for a 2014 Trail model. It also shows a picture, but of a Limited model...go figure. So I told him to do the same search, but with a 2012 Trail and PT938-89100 came up again. So it looks like we are out of luck. I'm not convinced that these will NEVER be available as a full unit, but probably not any time soon.

I'm confused. I got the runaround from the first parts department guy I talked with. Then I did a bit more digging, found PT938-89100 and went back to the dealer. They matched internet pricing. I installed them on my '15 Trail and they fit and work great.

What is the issue folks are seeing w/these boards? They aren't fancy, but my kids can actually get in the 4runner now.

I wished I had seen this thread two weeks ago. I did lots of Research and made lots of calls and visited parts depts at two dealerships to figure out what all these posts could have told me. Should have started here first.

It all started because I ordered the "KH Rigid" from the dealership, brought home the box, opened it up, and it was the PT938-89100. Returned them right away.

I was debating the N-fab route, now that I see all the pics here, I pretty sure that is what I'm going to add.

I also wish Toyota didn't show the KH rigid in their accessory catalog.

Just curious, why did you return it? I bought the same one, installed it and like it.

Also, for those who were curious, the PT938-89100 does not have bright trim.

Ok, so THESE are the running boards that I would like for my SR5 (not TE) and I'm confident that I can manufacturer, cut, mold and/or weld a solution to make them fit. However, what IS VERY INTERESTING is when I Googled PT938-89100 and searched under images, the above running boards was showing up on the Tacoma Boards!!???! See here, here and here. Of course what is really intriguing is that all three are being sold under $200, which is great for me... but what are your thoughts!? I'm new to the 4Runner world but willing to experiment,

I'm also wondering how similar are the Tacoma to the 4Runners for exterior add-ons.

The Tacoma ones you linked to seem to be the same running board (not sure if the length is the same though), but the brackets are different than are used for the 4Runner. Might be able to buy a set of the proper brackets.

The ones I posted on the very top are for the 14' Trail Edition and the SR5 model.

These are the running boards I am looking for. I can't seem to find the part number for these. I called the dealer and they don't know what I'm talking about. They claim that they are after market running boards. Yeah right. They match the top back bumper cover design.

Yours must be different because I thought Trail comes with Rigid (black) running board like above pic w/o any chrome.

I just wanted to reiterate a comment I made above. I bought the PT938-89100 for my Trail after purchase and they're working great.

They do not have bright trim.

Yes, they may share a part number with other Toyota trucks, but the part number above bolted right onto my 4runner in 30min and they're working great.

The "tread" looks different than the post above -- less "blocky". My parts department said the only way to replicate the true "factory" Trail rigid boards is to piece them together which ends up being super expensive.

Again, happy with PT938-89100 on my Trail.

I think trdpro shop has them but you can only individually buy the parts and it's like $1K wtf. Anyway, who is selling?

Check the 5th gen for sale/ wanted thread, they pop up in there all the time. I have a set I'm trying to get rid of but would prefer to locally. Shipping would likely be over $80 and it's hard to find a box that they would fit in. If you are interested anyways I would sell them for $250 plus whatever shipping ends up being. Headed to the UPS store tonight for something else so I could ask about boxing them.

Just picked up my 2016 trail this past weekend and looking at these OEM trail boards. The wife would like a step.

I'm comparing them to Shrockworks sliders with the dimple step (I know I would be looking at a wait) vs Budbuilt bump out sliders with tread.

I'm in Florida and won't be looking at much rocky terrain or burying her too deep in mud. I feel like the trail running boards would work for me and be much less expensive. But on the other hand, I like to know that I got the best that I could afford at the time. Decisions, Decisions.

Yes please check....$250 plus shipping seems reasonable as long as they look new. Also pics would be great as well !
