Trail Edition OEM Running Boards

I know this is an older post, but has anyone answered the question if these running boards will fit on a 2014 LE?

I'm 99.9% certain that they are all interchangeable. The only difference is the LE has taller hangers due to the thicker rocker panel. I just took boards off an XP and put them them on my LE. I kept my LE hangers.

The underneath side has ribs where they bolt to the hangers and is common to all designs.

Not with your current rocker moldings. You'll need to either remove them completely or replace them with the oem Trail or 14+ SR5 rocker trim.

Edit - Not sure if anyone has mounted these with the longer Limited hangers. That may actually work, just look a little funny.

Just keep your LE hangers and only swap the step itself. It will work.

There's a gap because the LE steps have a "gasket" to block the gap whereas Trail/XP steps do not.

LE on top, XP below.

But as stated, Trail/XP rocker panels are narrower which is why LE hangers are lower but mount to the same place on the frame and steps.

I have a 2012 Trail & just purchased a 2018 Ltd. The Trail has the trail edition running boards which I love. The Toyota Accessory information indicates that the Trial running boards will fit on a 2018 LTD, so I purchased another set. I tried to install them yesterday & discovered that the rocker panel trim piece is bolted to the same holes that the trail running boards use & the trim hangs down too far to install the boards.

Is there any way to modifiy the running board hanging devices or get another narrower rocker panel that will me to install these. I dont want to cut the Ltd rocker panel.

Hey guys I’m new here from Tacomaworld. I have built 5 tacos and just bought the wife a 2018 sr5 premium. I love the trail edition running boards and have had them on all 5 tacos ( like the black full step for my 8 year old special needs son) , otherwise would do her some predators!

I put them on today pt938-89100 and noticed that they barely touch the fender flare as it goes from color match to black. Barely barely only on driver side. The passenger side is close but doesn’t touch. Question I know the fender flare won’t move and the running boards won’t move so I don’t think I would have any issues down the road but wanted to see if maybe I could adjust them slightly somehow? Not lateral movement with the holes that are there !! They are the ones from 2010-2013.

Exactly my experience with the rubbing. (2017 SR5) I was able to adjust the brackets a little bit but the boards or the trim would shift with use. I gave up and swapped them for the Predators.

Does it actually do any damage ?? If not I don’t mind I love these board as they will be my 6th set ( 5 on Tacoma and 1st on 4Runner ) but if it will make a spot then I will put on the pro ones!

I installed the Trail Edition running boards on my 2019 SR5 Premium and didn't have any issues with clearing the mud flaps. I did have to loosen the brackets where they attach to the running board and adjust their location slightly in order to avoid contact with the front mud flaps. This was very easy and only took a couple of minutes for each side.

I installed the Trail Edition running boards on my 2019 SR5 Premium and didn't have any issues with clearing the mud flaps. I did have to loosen the brackets where they attach to the running board and adjust their location slightly in order to avoid contact with the front mud flaps. This was very easy and only took a couple of minutes for each side.

That’s what I was wondering if maybe underneath I could loses the other end of the brackets not attached to the frame to adjust ever so slightly and avoid contact ??

Since I could still return them I chose to do that and install the Predator steps. If you’ve had these boards before and you know you like them, go for it. You might just need to be a little creative with your install. Post up with pics and your experience once you have them on your 4Runner.

Nice! If you are still inclined, you may be able to loosen everything up and get enough movement to clear your mud flap trim. I remember loosening it all up, including the 6 main mounting bolts and the smaller hardware on the bottom side of the step, and being able to move the boards to the rear just enough. If I remember correctly, the mounting brackets had to be angled just a bit to make it work. Then tighten it all back up. Hopefully it all works to your satisfaction.

Has anyone installed these on a Limited? I have a '15 and was thinking of swapping these in instead of the automatic running boards I have now.
