Trail edition roof rack v.s. SR5 standard

Does the TE roof rack provide more clearance between the rooftop surface and the racks crossbars than the standard SR5 rack? I want to mount a rooftop cargo box and need to get it higher than the sharkfin antenna. Would the TE rack provide addtl clearance? Also are the crossbars interchangeable between these two racks? Are they the same crossbar? Thanks. 2011 SR5 owner here.

Not sure if the cross bars are the same, but the side rails on the TE rack are taller than the SR5 and LE.

yes, it does. TE roof rails stand ~2.5" taller than the SR5/Limited. Toyota 4Runner - 2013 Performance & Specifications

the crossbars are probably interchangeable, but i don't know for sure.
 
[MENTION=29376]sandcrawler[/MENTION] I am assuming the spec is to top of rack? Can anyone measure clearance below TE factory crossbar and flat roof (not raised cargo surface) ? On the SR5 factory crossbar I measure only approx. 7/8" in this location.
 
Maybe the easier question is on a TE looking front to back, does the sharkfin visibly extend above the factory crossbars? It does on the SR5 factory setup.

I contacted Toyota to order bars, and apparently the SR5 and Trail Edition do NOT use the same crossbars. They cost the same though.

as for the radio antenna, many roof racks have a cut out for it. I've ordered a MOAB to go on top of my 4Runner, and the photos clearly show that they've designed it to allow for the antenna.

i don't have the factory crossbars installed, so i couldn't say, really. i'd guess the cargo box will probably clear the sharkfin, though...
 
I installed after market crossbars (Yakima Whispbars) and they sit higher than the sharkfin and then I added a basket. I wrote a thread with pics on it if you search Yakima Whispbar. They're the more expensive ones but from what I've seen the round bars and feet will also raise you up the two inches to clear the shark fin, both are easier than trying to swap out side rails and crossbars from SR5 to TE roof rack and the brush at the carwash bay fits fully under the bars (and basket) without touching for easy cleaning.
 
Went to the garage and looked across my roof rails on my TE, they are higher than the shark fin. The fin is at least 1 inch lower than the rails.
 
I know its an old thread but....

Does anyone with the TE rack running or have a cargo box that clears the shark fin without aftermarket cross bars?

My 2014 SR5 with factory roof rack and factory roof rails are exactly the same height as the shark fin antenna i.e. at the top with a long straight edge they are the same.

Interesting, because my 2013 is definitely not like that. I know this for a fact, since my Thule cargo box will hit the top of the shark fin - I just tried it last week.

I may dump my OEM crossbars for an aftermarket set because of the height (or lack of).
