Never go to those either way, I guess I'm a traitor to the homeland. My dog sled doesn't turn tight enough for the drive-thru and I have a perfectly good coffee machines in my Igloo.
Ironically last time I went to ye old Timmy's was in New York after having a hangry fit about nothing being open before crossing the border. Always eat before the possibility of unjustified detention!

ottawa to NOLA is about 1500 miles... so 3 days that's an average of 500 miles a day. at an average of 8.62 hours a day... unless you don't plan to enjoy your destination at all each night or get there by dinner, I would say stick to the pavement, you don't have time to go off the fastest paved route up or back unless you take more time...
I make this assessment off experience. Last year my wife and I drove 7700 miles in 17 days across country in a big loop (east to west to east), this year we drove 5000 in a different loop (southestern states including nola) (don't ask, attempting to hit all lower 48 states, bucketlist)...
What I can tell you is I hauled ass with minimal stops for gas and bathroom (combining everywhere possible) and the average speed still came out to barely 60, I think I hit 61 on a good day... (no traffic and hotels right on and off the exits)... My experience is to plan your stops first then look for stuff to do right off the fastest planned route. If you don't have the destination in mind, you'll never get there or if you do, it'll be midnight and then you'll be wiped out and get a late start for the next day.

This may or may not affect you, but a rockslide shut down a portion of I-75 between Knoxville and the KY line. Expected to be out for a few weeks. Should be back up by the time of your trip (end of March), but delays happen.

I get what you mean about booking it to enjoy the cities at night but kinda not the flavor of trip we are going for on this one, considering we are staying put for many days in the middle. We're willing to get to New Orleans one day later and we managed to weasel getting off early the day before we were supposed to leave so we'll be putting in a good 7-8 hours a day earlier now too. Definitely going to haul ass for all the northern states we already know. We both drive, both have high in-truck endurance and easily pull 15 hour days in haul ass mode. Wouldn't do it every day, but doesn't hurt once in a while.
So far I don't feel like we added too much millage to the route "optimal" route, just enough to go through interesting places mid way and book it through the rest.

Me and one of my heep buddies are going up the morning of the 25th. I think we are going to try to get to the trail head
around 10:00AM. If that works into your schedule let me know.

We were planning to wake up in Ashville that morning and it would be our shortest millage / muck around day, so it fits pretty good.
How long ish time wise is the run?

Were going to run Richland in the morning and them explore the some of the FSR in the Pisgah Ranger District after lunch. Neither one of us have run it before so I not much help there. Based on the information it takes about 2 hours and is moderately difficult. I'm running my 80 and my buddy is running his Rubicon.

Check out Old House Gap "Road" off of Roseboro Road (google map it). Did that one this past weekend. Needed 4Lo in a few spots, and left a few scratches on the 4Runner, but it was a good time.

Its certainly on the list. My Uncle has a place at Lake James so were going to head up Friday, hit Richland, and then spend the next few days exploring Pisgah area. I saw some of your pics on FB, looked like a good time.

Ha, yeah that was me. It was a good time. I watched the Richland video, looked very similar to House Gap, only House Gap doesn't have the creek crossings.

I had a self auto correct and said richmond cause that's the street next to my house. That's definitely the best video for richland road I've seen as well. Don't have too many worries about what I saw in that vid but I'm sure it will be a tickle muckier this time of year. Not sure if we'll join you for any Pisgah exploration / if you end up going to old house gap [MENTION=136636]jafrush[/MENTION] mentioned, but we can head that way together after.
What LC you bringing down for Richland? I drove almost every gen of LC working in mining exploration and get nostalgic every time I see one. I wanted to get one down here, but the 5th gen won out on price and practicality. You guys planning on camping the night of the 25th while looking around Pisgah?

I picked up a 94 about a year ago as a project. I love that truc and the 4Runner is waiting in the wings until I've knocked the new off of it. We can set up meeting time place a little later. I'll try to see what kind of interest I can generate from others

We bought this one used ~2 years ago and it already has a bit of new knocked outta it against our will. Managed to put a few decorations in it since then and I have never seen any vehicle in my life be hit as much as this one while immobile. We're at the 5th significant parking lot hit so far.

If you're traveling up 9N by Saratoga Springs, you will pass a town called Clifton Park. There is a little diner there called Halfmoon Sandwich and Salad Shoppe. If you are hungry and pass by during breakfast highly recommend "The Lumberjack". Also anywhere in the Adirondacks is beautiful. Some roads will suddenly end and become dirt or gravel. Yep FZJ80, my wife currently has an accord and now she wants a 17TRD Pro Tacoma when her lease runs out next year, so the 4runner isn't going to see anything to severe till we pick up the truck.

[MENTION=135471]taners412[/MENTION] 9N is unfortunately getting get the boot now that we are doing that first leg right after work. We switched from taking I-87 to I-81. I'll be sure to hunt down those sandwiches next time I'm in the area and go take 9N with something a little more sporty.
