Trail Trim and Opor Sliders

Hey guys, I have 2012 limited. I bought the shrockworks rocker trim (group buy) and the Opor trail sliders. Of course, I got my sexy sliders a week after I ordered, but the trim kit, after 6 weeks, shrockworks still has no ETA on when it will be done. I assume 3 months and 3 weeks, so shrockworks doesn't have to give the extra 10% discount if we don't get the items in 4 months.

In any case, my question is: Does anyone know if I can install the rocker trim parts without removing the sliders? Is the gap large enough to fit the trim parts between the sliders and the body?

I have the same setup and have yet to receive my trim. That said, there should be no reason you cannot install the sliders now - you will just need to trim the rocker panels. This is super easy to do (did mine with a jigsaw and a fine tooth blade). The trimmed rocker panels are super easy to remove without having to take off the sliders. The big question is the shockworks trim...that said you can probably just loosen the bolts on the sliders to create enough room the install the trim once it comes.

Here are the steps per side:

1) remove trim - 1 bolt from each fender (2 total), 1 screw after you open each door (2 total), and remove the aluminum frame from under the car holding the rocker panel up (6 bolts total)

2) remove the chrome (or plasti-dipped) trim piece from the rocker panel by removing the blue retaining clips

3) using blue painters tape, create a straight line from one side to the other (long end) about 1/2 inch below the crease/edge (just below where the chrome trim piece sits) - note that there is a curve at one end and account for that. Also understand that once you cut to the end you'll need to square off your cut for the parts facing/inside each fender. Cut just below the main single bolt used to secure within each fender (two sides).

4) cut using a jigsaw along the blue line. Use calm nerves to cut straight.

5) clean the new edge removing any lingering shavings and make sure your line is straight (otherwise straighten it)

6) re-install the chrome trim piece and blue retaining clips

7) re-intall onto the truck. You will only use the two fender bolts and 2 door screws.

8) Do the other side now

9) install sliders

10) wait until Shockworks sends you're trim and R&R the rocker panel or what's left of it.

11) enjoy your sliders

Shockworks is a funny group - I have kept after them for my trim piece as well (paid full price BTW) and they have stated over the last one week that it was (1) in shipping, (2) being shipped, (3) being shipped you should get a tracking number, (4) we'll make sure it is shipped now, (5) tracking number received but no package shipped...lol

Just tell me it isn't ready - this isn't difficult.

I had to lower/loosen my sliders slightly to get the TE rockers on when I did the TE conversion. But I have SW sliders. Also, word of caution, a few of the slider bolts that SW gave me ended up being stripped out and un-removeable. I left those, but not sure what I'll do should I ever want to completely remove my sliders. Anyways, you might just make sure the bolts that come with your sliders seem legit...

Re: your sliders, why don't you just remove your rockers until the SW ones arrive? Seems a little involved to trim the rockers if it's just temporary. I was running that setup for about a year, and I got used to it. Just a thought.

I am just going to completely remove the stock rocker panels. Not going to bother with the whole trimming part. It will look ugly, but not for long.

I just didn't want to go through the whole "remove the 50 pound slider and install it back on" part again

That sucks! The bolts that came with the OPOR sliders are grade 10.9 so they are definitely strong. Just don't over-tighten
