Trail Trophies!

Well, two times out on the hardcore trails here in the Black Hills, and two sets of "trophies" to help me remember the occasions! My Runner has now moved a few notches further from "poser", and closer to "seasoned trail runner". This last time out, I had the first obstacle that beat me--a tall, uneven double ledge, and the truck's tires with a light mud coating. Once I figure out how to load it, I'll get a portion of my GoPro vid of the beast--no stills this time out. Here are some pics of the "mementos" for you to laugh at, anyway!

You seem happy about this?..... I have to be honest. I'm a wuss about body damage! I'd be crying a little inside... Haha.

By the way. Do you get hung up on your tow receiver package? It seems pretty low.

I can't say I prefer dents over smooth sheetmetal, but I built the thing to handle hardcore trails, and some damage comes with those trails--I consider these first hits a sort-of baptism for the truck. As for the hitch, it's the only decent way to create a recovery hardpoint until I get a proper rear bumper, and with 4" suspension and 35" tires, there's a lot of clearance under it--I haven't hit it yet (it will take one mighty steep approach for that!).

The "raisins" are fun to look at and imagine the horrors they've been put through, but I'll admit, I have no intention of taking mine that far. A few "love taps" here and there are cool, but my aim is to keep her fairly clean. Still, I don't want to limit where I go just for the sake of saving the appearance--I'll get some armor, drive as well as I can, and whatever happens happens. If you want to play with fire, expect a few burns.

Oh, that's yours? Time for some new sliders, yo :). Trailgear and 4xInnovations both make really affordable sliders, check 'em out. I don't go looking for fights with rocks, but I've landed HARD on my Trailgears a couple times now, with no damage to the sliders. If I hadn't gotten such a good deal on the Trailgears I'd have gone with the 4xI's though, I wish I had a kick-out.
 
Yup, if they don't have bars going to the frame about every foot, they're just steps. I'd look into those All-Pro pieces, Tye (or have your buddy make something similar)--they're very reasonably priced, and they've tested them on some seriously inforgiving trails. I'll be ordering mine later this summer. Like the 4xI's that KidV mentioned, these also have the kickout at the rear for pushing you away before hitting the rear tire.

I just have sliders on my pickup... and last time out I crushed the underside of the passenger side in 2 spots and destroyed the SR5 bottom trim piece... So I think it needs some too. Haha

I wheel all the time and do not get dents, THANK GOD. I DON'T DO BODY DAMAGE
 
Got my first real trail trophy today!!!

As soon as the video loads I'll show you how I got it. It's worth watching a few times.

I can't let FoG have all the fun here...

Going through a narrow path through some trees, as soon as the driver side tire came down off of the tree, the tree trunk met the fender. No pics or videos of the trail though.
