Trail Version 5th Gen???

Did I miss "the news"? I have not been able to find any Trail versions of the 2011? Did the massive Earthquakes in Japan alter the production plans for the 4runner Trail.

1 - I wanted an 8 cylinder

2 - The Trail was the next best consideration for my intentions. :|

Is this a man-under-a-rock-and-missed-some-sort-of-announcement-moment?

Stock is low, but it is available

Hi there, in Canada at least, it is available. The issue is inventory...

You can walk in to a dealer, pay a down-payment, and have a trail edition built, but they are not building an inventory of the TE version.

I just recently (last week) picked up a 5Gen Ltd with Nav that was only available because the dealership's owner was driving it.... If I had wanted to choose my colour, or any other 'options' I would have had to wait a few months for the car to be manufactured... and that's after doing a Canada-wide search using three different dealers.

When questioning the owner he gave a somewhat reasonable answer that as a result of the earthquake/tsunami that 'Toyota is focusing it's production on the core products that can sell out of inventory to keep up sales, but specialized or low volume cars will get made to order'.

Of course, that could be BS, but I got similar results when negotiating with three different dealers.

Regarding the supply of Trail Editions in Western Canada, by phoning dealerships over the last few weeks I could only locate two in BC, and one in Calgary. So I bought the Trail at our local dealer last Friday.

The salesman had said they were not even able to order them yet. I remain skeptical about that, and should get a friend to ask them if he can order one, now that the one on their lot is sold.

Who told you this? The dealer? Need it be said to not believe a word you're told there?

kbb.com shows dealer inventory, and although most dealers aren't smart enough to enter their inventory accurately, kbb shows 11 TE's within 200 miles of Washington DC. All but two are black though.

There will be others listed there under "unknown" trim.

When I bought mine, they gave me the same spiel. The one in stock on the dealer web site was "being driven by a manager, so do you want to buy this other one?" Then I told them who had what in stock, this is the one I want, and they have the choice to bring one in or have me buy at the dealership that has it on the lot. And I would pay 600 over invoice for their troubles. They asked for a deposit, and I responded with a "well, I guess I am getting in my car then..." The vehicle was there the following day.

As far as the V8 goes, if you want that, man up and get a GX. It has a V8, KDSS, and X-REAS.

Trail Edition

I just bought one a week ago. It might be the area you live in. I live in the midwest and Toyota doesn't even market the Trail here so I had my dealer trade with another dealer in another area that was getting one. If you go to Toyota's website and select build your own runner the trail package isn't even an option if you type in Chicago's zip code. If you type in Denver it is an available trim level. The dealer also told me that since the 4-runner and FJ are made 100% in Japan with 100% Japanese parts that they would be hard to come by. Production has ceased since the earthquake and supposedly won't resume again until the fall sometime. I would go to the dealer and tell them you want the Trail and they should be able to find you one. I had to wait 3 weeks but it was worth every minute. The V6 pulls like an 8. You will be very happy with it! Good luck on the hunt!

I did the same...It took me many hours and days trying to get one. But in the end, I got one with KDSS and Nav....

My dealer got it from another dealer, who heard it from a dealer, who heard it from a friend who, heard from another you been messin' around...ha ha
