I, like many other people here are planning on removing my wheels and tires and selling them. Simple economics tells me, don't expect to get much for them. I see the classifieds are saturated. I plan on pricing mine to sell. So what are people actually getting for low mileage sets? I see a lot of asking prices but I'm wondering what the reality is.

Precisely what the market will bear and what you are willing to sell them for. My tires went on my parents 07 Pathfinder. They just happened to need a set of tires a couple months after I switched. My wheels are stacked in my shop. I'm still considering putting dedicated M/T tires on them for "planned" off road trips.

My wife just bought a similar sized complete set of 4 one month old take offs from a co-worker's Chevy p/u for $150 because her GMC needed 2 new tires. He had just swapped to aftermarket tires and wheels and wanted them gone. For that price and not having to pay $300 for only 2 new tires I told her to go for it.

I just got rid of brand new stock tires that came on my trail, if you work at it you may get a hundred or two for them. After several wishy-washy inquiries I ended up giving them away though because I just didn't have space to store them more than a few days.

I've seen this posted around before though, I'd be interested in one of the Trail wheels (don't care about the tire) to replace the spare so its a matching wheel. A few others have posted that before too. So if you can't find a buyer for the whole wheel set you may be able to sell them individually for spare replacements.

Personally I would recommend splitting them apart and selling them separately. Tires with good tread left should be easy to sell locally as a lot of "businesses" buy used tires to resell them. I sold my stock tires within a week of posting them.

The trail wheels will probably be hard to sell as a set but quite a few people are always looking to add a matching spare. I bought a single Trail wheel from a forum member a few months back for my spare and I know quite a few others were looking to do the same.

Timing and the right buyer

It's all about timing and finding the right buyer. Personally, I think I got lucky. I sold my SR5 wheels and tires without TPMS for $700 and I took them off at 5k miles. I just happened to link up with a Tacoma owner who needed new tires and wanted to upgrade from 16" to 17". Gave his truck a whole new look.

$300-350 for the tires, $400 for the wheels. That's what I see regularly around here (Utah) as advertised prices that seem to sell. I got $350 for my OEM dunlops. Kept the trail wheels. Hate to say it, but at least around here they're a dime a dozen.

Personally, I think $300-$400 for "take off" stock wheels and tires would be a total steal. No doubt you could get more; it all depends on how long you're willing to wait to find the right local buyer. If I saw one locally selling for $100, I'd buy it in a heartbeat to use as a spare. Good luck

I just sold my stock wheels/tires for $550. This is coming off of a 2016 Trail with ~1000 miles at the time. They sold in about two hours after my initial posting here in the Bay Area.

If you were willing to split them up, I would consider buying one rim/tire for a spare. Depends on shipping price.

I actually just sold/delivered the stock Bridgestones that came with the truck. I had them listed for $400 for almost a month with no bites. I lowered the price to $375 had a few interested. Lowered it to $350, sold with in a few hours of lowering price. Seems to be the going rate for these tires. I kept the Trail wheels though. I think they look good on the truck with bigger tires. YMMV.

I'm not so sure the aluminum wheel work as a spare (7" vs 7.5") with the undercarriage spare holder. I'd make sure of that before you pull the trigger.

The stock trail wheell should fit in the spare location fine, only thing to look out for would be the size of the tire on it

Cool. Haven't tried just gauging/judging from having pulled mine down and putting it back up. I'm not so sure that whole mounting apparatus is going to be too kind to an aluminum wheel, but.... maybe I am wrong.

I'll be selling my pristine 2015 TE wheels in about a week. I am going to sell as a set but will part out piecemeal if no bites after a week.

Lots of Limited and SR5 owners are interested in swapping to Trail wheels (7.5" wide vs. 7" wide). That way you stay in spec if you go with 285/70 tires (note 1). When I get ready to get my next set of tires I'll be looking for a set myself. I'd eventually like to have 5 wheels for the matching spare, but that isn't a necessity.

Peruse the classified section here for examples of prices. I've seen quite a few sets go through.


Note 1: Yes, I know it's possible to run 285/70s on a 7" wheel, but I generally choose to stick within manufacturer specifications when it comes to critical components. If I upsize to 285/70R I'll be looking either for a set of Trail wheels, or else a set of aftermarket wheels. I imagine a set of used Trails will be cheaper.

I bought a set of trail wheels from a neighbor for $300. She had swapped for TRD Pro wheels at purchase, but dealership sent her home with her original wheels. She was just anxious to get rid of them (no good place to put them), so I felt I got a pretty good deal.

Selling my stock tires off my 16 Trail Premium, 4 for $400, like 500 miles on them. Trying locally or really close on Craigs. I was thinking of seeing if I can sell them to a small local tire shop, for a discounted rate, 4 tires take a lot of real estate in my single car garage/ workbench/ washer dryer room.

Sold mine today

Today I sold my OEM Bridgestone Dueler H/T 265/70R17 that had 425 miles on them. Asking $350 and I took $300 for the set of 4 (no wheels, just tires). The posting was on Craigslist for less than 24 hours and I sold to the first person who inquired. I had another inquiry an hour later. I probably could have held out another $50 or so, but I wanted them out of my garage.

Earlier in the week I bought a set of BFG KO2 in the same size at Discount Tire. they offered to give me $160 for the Duelers in trade.

Acc'd to the Discount web site, the same Dueler tires new are $644, not including install, tax, etc.

I just sold my perfect 2015 TE wheels to a member here.

Just find the right buyer and price them attractively and you'll have no problem selling them. I had a second interested party the next day that was local but committed to first buyer/responder and he came through as agreed on.

As long as you work out shipping and such into the price it's not a big deal either way.

Just be honest about the condition and if you want to move them fast, don't be greedy. It's supply and demand. You undercut the other suppliers on price and quality and you'll have the demand.
