Trailer harness

My 93 came with what looks like a tow package. The PO included a hitch, courtesy of it being rusted on :bravo: . I would assume he had something set up for trailer lights but couldn't find a plug under there. Here is all I could find underneath.

That wire is running from the bottom of the lift gate to the drivers quarter panel. If there is no factory plug, which kits have you had luck with? Not much luck reading up after a search - all I could find was that there used to be a plug and play kit that is apparently discontinued, and one post stating you need an additional accessory if you want both running lights and working brake lights. Help appreciated, was going to pick up a trailer today but now a no go.

I bought a Metra kit from Autozone that plugged into the taillights. No tapping or splicing required, return it to stock by unplugging it. Very awesome.

!&*@%^!

Thanks for the info man, I was only finding generic kits where I had to splice, find a ground etc but called autozone and they had that part number - looks plug and play

I go to lower the rear glass so I can get the harness on there and pick the trailer up tomorrow. Wouldn't ya know it the glass won't move. Never any problems. Washed it the other day in a wash bay, some light rust up by the window seal on the tailgate - moisture must've gotten in there. I hear a relay click either way I turn the key but the motor isn't activating. I'll park it inside, might get lucky and it'll dry out and work. :yell:

I used a kit that I had to tap into the rear harness, got it at a local auto parts store for under $20. Didnt use the bad plastic clips ans soldered the wires on. Worked great, took about an hour total to install.

Cycled the rear wiper and back came the rear window! Harness worked fine. Get one marked "converter," they're around $25 and convert the signal for the flat4 plug (one I got was Hopkins part$ 46155). Glad I went with a relatively light trailer - the 1100lb popup I was picking up pulled fine in top gear but it was dropping gears on pretty small hills... Hope mileage doesn't suck too bad on the summer trip out west.
