Trailer light problem

Good evening all, I was working on rewiring my wiring harness on my 96, it came with the factory 4 pin. The bumper I bought had a 7 blade one built in so I wanted to just wire it to that since all my contacts were corroded. After I had all the wires reconnected I used a 7 blade to 4 pin adapter and my uncles trailer to check that everything worked right, which it didn't. The parking lights and brake lights work on the trailer, but when turning on my left or right blinker both lights on the trailer flash, sort of like hazard lights. Any ideas on why this is happening? I am moving to CO in a few months and will most likely be towing a trailer but no immediate rush.

Did you try the factory 4 pin prior to this change? I think maybe your trailer light convertor isn't working. Because 3rd gens have a separate t/s and brake light, the convertor has to take the separate turn signal and isolate it from the brake light circuit. Of course this assumes the trailer is wired correctly too.

To properly diagnose this, we need to examine a lot of things. It's a fairly simple thing, but you'll need a test light and some jumper wires, if you want to try. Let me know.

We did not test the 4 pin since all the contacts were bad and I didn't feel like taking the time to clean them up. Last time I towed a trailer the U haul guy was having a problem with the blinkers IIRC but that was about 18 months ago. I would definitely like to fix this later on in the week and can pick up a test light when I get back to NY.
