Anyone pulling a trailer out there? What electronic brake controller do you use? Is there an adapter cable from Toyota you can use under the dash to hook it up with? I have a tent trailer I would like to pull w/my 06 Sport V6

Tekonsha Prodigy - order with the 4Runner specific pigtail. The factory hookup is next to the driver kickpanel under the dash. The hardest part is finding a good place to put the controller. I took out the useless center storage bin, dremel'd out a notch in the plastic and mounted the controller.

I tow a 20' hybrid and use a tekonsha prodigy controller as well. One of, if not the best on the market. Most T4Rs have the adapter to plug into the harness in the glove box when new. It's a cheap 10 minute job at a trailer place if you don't want to do it yourself. I mounted it under the dash to the right of the steering wheel, above right knee. Not alot of room but it works.

Be careful with the mounting position. I believe inertial type controllers like the Prodigy need to be mounted within a few degrees of level.

If you have the towing option package, you should have the 7-pin trailer connection in the rear, and if you got it new there should have been a brake controller adapter harness in with the ball mount. If you don't have the adapter harness, you can get one from Toyota, or aftermarket. There is a place to plug in the adapter just above the left side kick panel (above the parking brake pedal). I use a Kenosha for my camper, but there are several good units out there. There are several threads on this topic here you can search for, or visit one of the RV sites for their input.

The prodigy doesn't have to be completely flat but the closer the better. I have it mounted in the same place as Tony, just a little lower.

I have the Voyager XP, from Kenosha which is an inertia unit, and I mounted on the other side of the steering wheel, just below the access door to the fuse box. Mine is no where's close to level, but the installation instruction said it would be OK, as long as I followed the setup instructions to set the proper 'zero' point for level in the position I have it in. I have used it for two years with no problems. I am pulling a '91 Coachmen Catalina 260FK.
