trailing arm uniball crooked

I called icon today and they told me that's normal. they seen some vehicles do that. they also said that i can get it back straight and retorque and see if it does it again. I just don't like seen one of them sideways like that. I will get them back straight and get an alignment and see what happens. i'll keep you guys posted.

Is the rod hitting the frame mount? if so, then its NOT normal. Otherwise, re torque and see how it goes.

Just to be clear, the large adjuster nut does NOT get torqued! It is for adjusting length only. The two smaller pinch nuts is what holds it in place and they have their own torque specs which is something like 45 but look it up in the instructions. Do not ever turn the large adjusting nut or heim unless you have loosened the pinch nuts!

My guess is that the pinch nuts were not torqued to spec and so the heim has been allowed to rotate... Simply loosen the pinch nuts and rotate the heim back and torque them properly. You MIGHT want to remove it and double check length as someone else suggested as well. Don't want your rear axel tracking sideways :)

The cross bolts that attach the arm to the chassis are 96 lbs and you torque the BOLT head, not the nut since the nut is a locking nut.

The hex collar is supposed to be like that, otherwise you have adjustability in only one direction. The pinch bolts keep the hex collar from rotating.

Well, count me confused and I apologize for giving bad info. These apparently operate differently from the helm joints I used in my dirt track racing days.....:redface::whistle:

Glad I saw this thread. Mine were the same and I assumed that's just what they did. So I removed mine today, and the ends were definitely not torqued. I removed the rod ends first and put some anti-seize on the inner and outer thread sleeves.

thank you for the clarification. now it makes a lot more sense to me. how could the length be off? i'm not looking forward to taking the arms off again as they are a PITA to get the bolts thru.

They are a PITA to get in if the axle has shifted. I gave up on that and used Icon's suggestion of putting the frame end on first, lengthening the arm to reach the axle end until the bolt reaches through, then shortening it on the truck using a tape measure to reach the right length. Worked alright, will see how it drives.
