This is what I use when I am going somewhere that has a ton of low close branches. It looks like crap when its on but its only $30 for a 100ft roll at my local RV store and you can just rip it off and throw it out when you are done. Saved my paint already. I know people are going to say the pinstripes add character but I have no problem taking a $40k truck off-roading but I still want it to look good when I am going out on the town.

Like I said it looks bad but then again I didn't spend too much time putting it on either. I went alittle overboard on the mirrors, wont do that again. Also I drove almost an hour on the freeway 60+mph with it installed and none of it came off. I did get some funny looks though.

I think they're ridiculously funny. Then again, I got my first door ding after a few days of ownership and have several big ones since. The sides of my truck have a lot of racing stripes from trails. I use my truck and actually prefer it look that way when I go out. I get a kick out of the lifted trucks with bars, lights, racks, big tires, and showroom quality paint. Those who prefer the saran wrap look can have it; I prefer the Slap Shot look:

I don't see how that saran wrap stuff doesn't tear from low brush and branches and is more designed to keep your truck clean vs something like a branch hitting scuffing it.

I'm on the fence with dealing with off road scuffs and keeping the truck nice for the street and right now I do a good balance of both.

So you are saying I have to chose either wheel or have a nice looking truck? Thats funny I don't see it that way. I am sure there are quite a few other people on this forum that want to wheel with their runner and still have it look good.

The wrap is really durable, I thought for sure I was going to have scratches down the sides of my truck after the last time I used it. Branches were making that terrible scraping sound going down the sides. After I was done wheeling for the day I inspected the wrap and it had scratches all down the sides of it but when I removed it the paint underneath was perfect.
For $30 I say try it if you want to protect your paint and can deal with it looking funny for a day, if you don't care about your paint then save your money and enjoy your pinstripes. Nothing wrong with either choic:lookout:e.

i have alot of pin stripes and dont mind them but i'd still like to keep the 4runner clean if its possible.

maybe having some sort of protection for the paint would encourage people to try off roading who wouldnt otherwise?

^I agree with that. I've only got about 3,500 miles on the truck and i've got pinstriping on both sides of my truck already. Most people would not be happy about that but I'm completely fine with it. I now understand why there are very rarely any "nice" trucks out there. It takes a different breed to enjoy off roading. Utilizing a ~$50k truck for what it was designed for could be a daunting task for most. I like the idea of using the "saran wrap" stuff but I don't think it's for me. :)

I bet you`re the guy that goes to the pool, and gets pissed, when you get splashed with water, lol

If you`re going to wheel it, you WILL get scratches, you WILL break stuff, its going to happen.

Well when I go to the pool I wrap myself in plastic so I don't get wet, duh.

I do have scratches from taking it out, but I wanted to limit them so my truck isn't covered with them. That is why I looked for a solution for my needs, which the wrap filled. I don't use it all the time but when I am going someplace that I know branches are going to scrape my sides alot I do put it on. I know I will get scratches and I will break stuff, but I will avoid for as long as I can.
Everyone holds value to different things differently, some people will spend thousands on the top of the line lift and never take it out while others will take it out as is and beat the crap out of it. Most people I work with think I am crazy for taking my truck out in the first place, but I wouldnt have put a lift and tires on it just for looks, thats not how I roll. As long as we all enjoy our 4runners the way we want to then who cares.
