Tranny flush/2000 model

I want to flush the old tranny fluid out and put in new amsoil,I am not dropping the pan,I have a tru cool cooler just installed.
Do I need to drain the pan first and than refill with amsoil or just take off send line and drain a quart than replace with a new quart(repeat this till I see new fluid?
The stick on this seems to be just replacing with the same type fluid.

I have dropped the pan before my flushes. In hindsight, I didn't need to. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't. Just have at least 14 quarts of new ATF on hand.

When I got my 96 with 255,000 miles on it I bought 3 gallons cheep of Dex3 and did two drain and fills. driving a week between them.

then I installed a magnefine inline trans filter in the cooler line coming from the trans. this fall I will put in the last gallon and drive a little then drop the pan, clean the magnets in the pan put on a new filter and reassemble with some synthetic Pennziol Multi Vehicle Dex3 trans fluid.

Yup same ATF-3 Only. The pan filter isn't much of a filter, its got bigger holes than your average window screen, i wouldn't bother with it. Draining only uses about 4 quarts, so drain/fill, drive a day/week/whatever the repeat once more. I also use a magnefine filter (real filter plus magnets), on ebay for about $12. Good cheap insurance. Luck! :banana:

I am replacing fluid with amsoil(different fluid).
I want to flush old fluid out,do I just pump a qt out and put in a new qt,or do I need to drain the pan first and than refill the pan with amsoil and then pump out a qt and replace with a new qt.
How dos the tranny flow,to the front(send line),is it from the pan or out of the torque converter?

Personally I don't think it's needed to drop the pan. Notice the drain bolt ? But everyone has their opinions.

Gotcha. Don't worry about the fluid in the pan.

Drain 2qts into the bucket. Turn off key. Fill with 2qts of Amsoil ATF. Repeat 7 times. Drive around for 15 minutes or more, come back home, run through all the gears, check fluid level, top off if necessary.
