Tranny service from dealer

A service Tech @the dealer gave me an est.price around $400.00 for a flush and fill on my 06 v6 4runner with the sealed tranny.That seems a little high.Is that high?I know I cant do it myself or would not anyway.Any ideas where else to take it to?.Thanks for any advise.

Not sure if it is high, seems like a lot of money. I would give it a shot doing it yourself. The fluid will only cost you about $100. Then you could buy everything you need to do it yourself, after that take the little lady out to dinner and still have some money in your pocket!

I am planning on doing it myself for the first time, check out the maintenance section. It really seems pretty straight forward. Plus you learn a little more about your vehicle.

$400 does seem pricey! Is there a pan to drop on the sealed trannys or an internal filter to change?

They are probably just removing the line at the cooler and doing a flush. If that is the case, you can either do it yourself or take it to one of those "quick lube" places and get it done cheaper.

Either way, you will achieve the same effect.....other than saving some money.

I had both mine (old V6 and new V8) done at the dealer. Both were under $100.

That sounds more in line with what I have seen in other threads. They must be flushing it with Johnny Walker Black Label to get to a price of 400.

I just got this done a few months ago for 170 after taxes. And thanks to me looking at the receipt I saw they charged me 40 for a service they said they wouldn't charge me. :redbrick:

I highly suggest you literally call the service dept just to drop a '**** you'.
