Tranny whine - how long do I have

Does it whine:

- Stopped while in gear?
- Driving while in L?
- Driving while in 2?
- Driving while in D w/ OD off?
- Driving while in D?
- More/less when accelerating or coasting?
- Change pitch matched with engine speed, road speed or gear changes?

If your trans really does turn out to be bad, I have a 2WD trans sitting in my garage. High mileage, but still working great (removed for my 4WD swap).

Hey Charlie - I will do some more driving this weekend and report back. Haven't tested L or 2 or OD off.

Definitely whine in D at idle and under acceleration. No whine on decel.

I will send you a message regarding the 2wd tranny you have.

I always got the, "that's a girl's name!" too, but I've actually never met a single other Blair in person. That's pretty cool though, nice to meet ya friend.

Haha - back atcha! I met a Blair at a bike race recently - someone was hollering for him and freaking me out. My Pops was into the old Scottish/Gaelic names. My mom was born in KC MO and said Al Capone lived on her block for a while laying low.....

I'm having a whining issue in my 98 as well, sounds like power steering, but only whines when I put it in drive or reverse. It changes pitch with the engine rpms. It seems to me that a failing pump would whine even in neutral or park, and make a consistent sound, not changing with the engine rpm, and that a TC would only make noise when in gear...? Aside from the noise, this is the best feeling and shifting AT I've owned in 32 years of driving, including my '00 4R, so I really hate to swap it...

Mine feels great, too. I'm in the 'Living With it for Now' mode. Even going to do a deep desert solo trip for the better part of a week with 'Ol Whiney'
