Trans Maint.

I spent the better half of this morrning trying to replace my trany filter. There were two things that made it take all day.

1) was auto zone has a tone of options for each model and year t4r. I don't entireley blame them however.

2) I have said it befor, I try to save money by going to the parts store and doing things myself and I end up wasting 3X as much of my time in the process.

So after 3 trips to auto zone, I ended up with a new gasket and 4 fresh qt. of ATF. First time it was the wrong filter and gasket. Second, it was the right gasket but wrong filter and the third time I just went back to return the wrong filter and get my money back.

I still need to go to the dealer and get the right trans filter. At least I got to drop the trany pan, clean that out (including the 4 magnets in there, thought that was cool) and scrape off the glue that was used the last time the trany was serviced (whoever did it apparently couldn't find the right gasket and just gunked it up)

But now I know that trany inside and out. So if any of you guy or gals plan on servicing your trany in the futre, I welcome your Q's. As long as it is a 96' Limited 3.4L 4X4. :)

Actually that 'glue' is orange transaxle FIPG from toyota. I fully recommend using that over a gasket. The gasket will leak gauranteed.

makes scence, the guy I bought the truck from had all the maintenece done at the dealership. That orange stuff was just so messy. It took me about 30 min to cleen it off the pan and another 30 to cleen it off the trany.

Even if the gasket leaks a little, It would be easier to change than having to clean and re-apply the "glue". I like droping the pan and seeing what's ging on in there anyway, clean the little magnets.
