Transfer case troubles...need help

No....

Any luck? Hope you get this figured out soon, very frustrating I'm sure.

I've been conversing with Low Range Offroad today. They are stumped as well. They have been helpful and said they want to make it right. So that was encouraging to hear.

I took some more pics and some measurements tonight, as per there request. Will see what they say tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in.

Well Low Range Offroad had me ship the crawl box and my tcase back to them. They were unable to resolve the issue via email or phone conversation. So I had to package up both cases and put them on the brown bus. Now hurry up and wait for them to get there, then for the 'tech' to diagonose, assemble and ship back to me. Arghh...

I do have to say, so far I have been impressed with Low Range customer service. They have been responsive and have stated 'they want to make it right" and that they "want me to be satisfied". That is refreshing to hear in this day...IMO.

I am really anxious to hear what they find. Even though I am a rookie at this project, I followed there instructions to the letter, so I am really curious as to why it wouldn't work. This project has been very frustrating, but I have to say...Man have a learned a lot. Here's to hoping it ends well....

I saw you got it in, what ended up being wrong with it?

I will update this thread this weekend when I have some time.

The short story: Inchworm machined the coupler in the crawl box incorrectly.
I had to ship my tcase and the crawl box back to Low Range and they corrected the issue.

1 year later....

Since I never got around to updating this thread, I thought I would give a quick 1 year (roughly) review.

This was the most frustrating, challenging and ultimately satisfying mod I have made to my 4runner. I love having a crawl box!!!

I'm sure my learning curve was much steeper than most that might attempt this mod, for several reasons.
1. I'm not a mechanic.
2. This is the only vehicle (in my life) that I have ever modified.
3. I had zero experience with a rig with a crawl box. I don't have friends with them, I've never even rode in a vehicle with one.

That being said, this mod was worth the challenge. I use 2WD low a lot! And having double low makes driving a manual tranny soooo much easier on obstacles. It gives me so much more control.

If I had to do this mod again, I would go with a Marlin Crawler taco box. I planned to use them, but they were out of stock at the time (for 6-8 months), and Inchworm was on sale. I have noticed that Inchworm gear is no longer on Lowrange offroad website. Makes me wonder if I wasn't the only customer that had issues.

There you go....

I'm in the middle of getting my ducks lined up for a dual case.

I talked to both Marlin and LROR today.

Marlin has an "unknown" wait time for the adapters.

Inchworm is no longer associated with LROR. They switched over to Trail Gear.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and updates.

Sorry I did not document my progress of this mod better. I had intended to take a lot of pics and do a write up, but the truth is I was so tired of wrenching on my rig. When I finally got it all done, I didn't have the desire to write about it, I just wanted to get on the trails.

There are others on here that have far more experience and knowledge then me, but if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Best of luck
