TRD/5100 Front End Issue

Running on the second perch, no extra weight. Hub to fender is 23.5.

Stock CV's were torn and growling. Tossed in a new set over the weekend. Still growl's over 50. There was no noise before lifting.

Only thing I can think of is that I'm too high and need to come down a perch. However, I researched beforehand and there are plenty of you on the second perch with no issues. So, either you're all full of poop :biggrin1: or I'm doing something wrong.

Anyone else run into something along these lines? I'm way over budget on this project already, wife is going to kill me when I tear into it again.

I have the same lift. 2nd perch with tundra Y/Y- Y/B coils. I was only 22.5 but that was to the edge of my limited flares, so that measurement might be somewhat obscure.
Did you get an alignment, and if so was it done correctly?
Did you replace the both CV axles or just the boots?
Explain exactly what your experiencing with this "growl"?
I really like my lift, just have to get some new UCA's to get some of my caster back.

My bet is one of two things.

1. The original noise was not coming from the CV's so replacing them did nothing to stop the "growl".

2. The "new" CV's are crap. What brand did you buy?

I did. Twice actually.
Both axles.
It's a grinding noise along with a vibration.

Do you get any vibrations as well? When I installed my Toytec Ultimate lift, there was vibrations as well as some growl. It turns out that the front was way too high. It went away after I lowered it.

However, I did see alot of other members running your setup at 2nd perch without any issues. So I'm curious as to why some are fine. Good luck. :whoo:

These have a good reputation. You don't have the coil seats upside down on your 5100's do you? Seen it happen too many times before...

I don't. I guess I'm going to tear it apart again and go down a perch. Maybe I just don't have enough weight up front to bring it down far enough to be happy.

You are certain, the seats/perches aren't upside down though?

That's a good thought, but I changed out the knuckles complete with Hubs this weekend as well. Along with new UBJ/LBJ and OTE's.

Grinding noise all the time or while in 4wd? More or less evident when brakes are applied? Dust shields not hitting the rotor. Calipers not dragging?
Did you use Y/Y Y/B coils? That lift does look pretty high in front. Can you lift the front end and spin the tires? Try to lift it under the LCA to keep the suspension loaded.

Noise is only at 50 or above. I took video of it but you can't really hear it that well.

No dragging caliper, spins freely in the air. Y/Y Y/B. Who the hell knows.

your 5100s have five perches and you're on the second, right?

I saw another thread that the tacoma 5100s have 3 perches and you're supposed to use the bottom for that one. Figured I'd throw it out there as a possibility.

That seems a bit high in the front to me, too, although I don't have your setup (I want it, though).
