TRD CAI vs. True Flow XDI Intake

Okay guys,

I've had my 2006 4runner for about 2 years now. Its been great to me. I just had its 15000 mile check up done by my local dealership. It feels so super smooth just like when I first got it.

Its time to treat myself and my 4runner to some better performance. Its time to add some much needed beef.

My question is:

I hear such good things about both the TRD and True Flow intakes. I'm not sure which one to go with. The TRD uses the hold in the wheel well an the True Flow uses the air inside the engine area...so its not technically a cold air intake...however I have not heard of any negative results with this type of design. Most users seem happy.

Which would you choose and why? Do you own one of these intakes?


What am I looking for in an air intake? Performance...MPG, and sound. I've heard the TRD is rather loud...but how does it perform compared to the True flow?

Both are around the same price...money isn't so much an option for me with a CAI.


I would go with a S/C..too bad they don't make one for the 4runner V6

any opinions and help with these 2 different intakes would help me decide!

I would skip the CAI. The stock unit is the best CAI going. I would upgrade the filter though.

I just yanked out my VOlant last night and now not bugged by that awful noise!

i got TRD CAI for my 064RSE

I love my TRD CAI, and been satisfied by its performance. the noise will only growl when you floor it and it idles sounds like a stock intake. I have no dyno result to prove the performance gain, but by feel, it accelerates better.

I would recommend TRD over any other CAI, why? its just my opinion.

Thanks! it would appear that the TRD CAI is almost like the stock one, only a straight pipe and its full enclosed...a bit bigger.

Looks nice. any MPG increase?
