TRD Cold Air Intake on a 2017 ??

I'm an advocate for buying the parts separate as well. I paid around $250 shipped from Camelback Toyota. Lots of threads on here with the parts numbers. I only needed to purchase a short piece of vacuum hose ($.99) and some black wire loom (a few bucks) if you don't already have it. I already had electrical tape and zip ties. The installation instructions are floating around the board too in PDF.

Anybody happen to know how these airboxes are CARB certified? I know for some brands you have to get a unique CARB certification sticker--is that that case for this one? If so, do you get the sticker if you order the parts separately?

Search through this thread for the parts, but it's actually cheaper to buy the pieces separately than to buy the complete kit.

I bought mine, without the filter, for 225 shipped. And then like $6 in loom harness and vacuum line over at local auto part store. Use your stock filter until it's time to replace, and either go with the TRD one, or an AFE wet or dry filter when necessary.. (so like $300 after all said and done).

Plenty have members have done it the piece-milled way, and well, it's ridiculously silly how it's priced as a kit. And super easy to install, if you're so inclined and able.

yup, I did the piece meal parts and cabe out to around $255. would never have got it past the wife otherwise.

Was wondering if the TRD CAI was in turn compatible with the upstream ARB Safari snorkel?
I'm def headed in direction of snorkel but wasn't sure if CAI would work or even be necessary...Thoughts?

TRD Air intake

Hey everyone, I hope this thread isnt dead, I was just reading over it and saw some mention of power gain.

I have been working on this for a while with a speed shop here in Vegas. The thing we found is its really hard to get a bunch of power out of a single "performance" upgrade. However we went through the process of upgrading the entire air flow system to and from the engine and the butt dyno sure does feel a difference.

I am running a snorkel, TRD air intake, Doug Thorely headers, and a flowmaster catback system.

We are estimating an additional 30 hp at wide open but like i said no dyno.

but at the end of the day for me if the truck feels faster thats all i really need. Its no race truck thats for sure, just wanted it to be more fun!

Just ordered one today to put on my new 2018 ORP. Planning to match it with a Borla catback another month or two down the road. Was hoping to get around a 1mpg gain w/ 50/50 split of city/highway use.

it isn't carb certified, but that didn't stop me from installing one in my nazi state.

the TRD CAI works perfectly, even some would argue that its actually easier to install, because you don't have to cut the oem air box inlet, and you only have to file off a nub off the trd CAI inlet to get it to fit with the snorkel.

There was one on Craigslist near Pitt the guy was asking 250 with 2 filters, looked like a good deal. I have one on my 16, no bump in MPG just a little more noise.

Actually it is CARB, they just don't send the sticker, you have to request one.

For 2010-2018+, Toyota has changed the emission compliance information on the CAI. A new process has been implemented by Toyota which means there is no longer a need for the emissions label which is typically included in the performance CAI for the 5th Gen and FJ cruisers.

We are located in California and will not be using an emissions compliant label. If your state requires an emissions compliant label, one may be ordered through Toyota dealer or the Toyota materials distribution center at 310-468-9800, or [email protected].

The TRD CAI has received 50 state emissions compliance via the California Air Resources Board or CARB. Not all states require the emissions compliance label but TRD does recommend ordering one.

To receive the proper emissions compliance label for the TRD CAI please order MDC part number 00602–35120. Also, proof of ownership may be required, so you may need to prove that you bought the intake from an official distributor.

How’s the long term gas mileage change?
I remember when i put a TRD intake on one of my Tacoma’s and it did better MPGs for a bit then got worse and the theory was that the computer increased the fuel mixture because of more air.

I didn't have my 4R long enough without it to compare previous to now MPG, but I can tell you the throttle response and crispness is worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Yes it is compatable, I'm running both.

I'm not sure. I never bothered to check. They both use the same filter element, but if i remember correctly, the lids clamp differently, but dont quote me on that..

That I'm not sure about. I piecemeal'd mine together but my state doesn't require the sticker. Send an email, just ask. I mean what would they do if you bought a used vehicle with the system but no sticker?..you would hope they would send one in that case. Just saying.

Glad the kit I ordered from a local dealership is back ordered, allowed me to cancel the order and order the individual parts, saving $100.
